North Carolina Central senior Paulina Afriyie was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina Central’s Anissa Rivera was named Rookie of the Week, and Afriyie was also named Defensive Player of the Week.
Afriyie (F, 5-11, Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) averaged a double-double (23.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game) this past week and was a combined 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from the floor as the Eagles knocked out a pair of wins. She had 24 points and 15 boards, to go along with three blocked shots, in Monday’s win over Howard, and on Saturday against Maryland Eastern Shore, Afriyie had 22 points, 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks. Of her 25 rebounds for the weekend, 16 came on the defensive end.
Rivera (F, 6-1, Fr., Capitol Heights, Md.) averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 boards a game this past weekend, shooting a combined 48.3 percent (14-for-29) from the floor. She dropped 23 points on 10-for-16 shooting against Howard, while also grabbing eight boards and two steals – and against Maryland Eastern Shore, she had 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Ashanti Hunt (B-CU) had 13 points and seven rebounds in a win over Norfolk State.
Imani Reid (B-CU) had 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting against South Carolina State.
Amaya Scott (B-CU) dropped 18 points on 8-for-12 shooting against Norfolk State.
Chance Graham (CSU) had eight rebounds and three steals against Delaware State.
Alexandria Hamilton (CSU) dropped 12 points on four field goals against Delaware State.
Aliyah Lawson (CSU) had 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists against Delaware State.
Sharajah Collins (DSU) had 18 points, five assists and four steals in a win over Coppin State.
Shalaunda Burney-Robinson (FAMU) recorded two double-doubles (16 points, 12 rebounds against Norfolk State; 13 points, 12 rebounds against South Carolina State).
Ayonna Williams (HOW) had 16 points against North Carolina Central.
Chelsea Mitchell (MSU) recorded a double-double (17 points, 17 rebounds) against Delaware State.
Le’on Hill (NCAT) had 16 rebounds, 11 points, three blocks and two steals against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Cinia McCray (NCAT) had 18 points against Maryland Eastern Shore and 16 points against Howard.
Chanette Hicks (NSU) had 20 points and four steals against Bethune-Cookman.
Heniaya Moton (SCSU) dropped 27 points against Bethune-Cookman.
Brooklyn Bailey (UMES) had 19 points against North Carolina A&T State.
