MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 25, 2020 Redshirt senior guard Jibri Blount of North Carolina Central University has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week and Co-Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. Blount shares the defensive honor with Coppin State University sophomore center Brendan Medley-Bacon. Meanwhile, freshman forward Wayne Bristol, Jr. of Howard University has landed the league’s Rookie of the Week honor.
 
Blount (F, 6-7, r-Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) had a brilliant week on both ends of the court, leading the Eagles to victories over Maryland Eastern Shore and Howard. Offensively, he averaged 24.0 points and 1.5 assists. Defensively, he averaged 14.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 0.5 blocked shots.  He had double-doubles in both contests, including 28 points with 18 rebounds against the Hawks and 20 points and 11 rebounds against Howard.
 
Medley-Bacon (C, 7-1, So. Baltimore, Md.) led the Eagles to a comeback win over Delaware State, garnering 13 rebounds (10 defensive) to go along with five blocked shots. He also pumped in 16 points in the victory. It was Medley-Bacon’s sixth double-double of the season and his fourth game this season with at least five blocked shots.
 
Bristol (F, 6-6, Fr., Upper Marlboro, Md.) averaged 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 rebounds as the Bison fell to North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central. His top outing was a 26-point, six-rebound effort against the Aggies.
 
Other Top Performers
Malik Maitland (B-CU) averaged 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists in victories over South Carolina State in overtime and Norfolk State.
 
Cletrell Pope (B-CU) averaged 12.5 points, 13.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots as the Wildcats defeated South Carolina State in overtime and Norfolk State.
 
Kamar McKnight (CSU) totaled 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in the Eagles’ lone game of the week, a victory over Delaware State.
 
Bryce Moragne (FAMU) averaged 16.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the Rattlers’ victories over Norfolk State and South Carolina State. He blistered the nets, connecting on 73.3 percent of his field goals.
 
Stanley Davis, Jr. (MSU) had 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal in the win over Delaware State. Davis becasme the 28th Morgan State player to reach 1,000 career points. 

Jermaine Bishop (NSU) averaged 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals for the weekend.
 
Devante Carter (NSU) posted averages of 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the Spartans’ contests against Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman.

Ronald Jackson (NCAT) averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds int he Aggies' wins over MEDS and Howard. Jackson recorded his 13th and 14th double-double of the year while also shooting 52 percent from the floor.
