Baltimore, Md. (Feb. 24, 2020) --- Delaware State cut an 18-point second half deficit to five with four minutes left to play but came up short in a 90-80 MEAC men's basketball loss to Morgan State Monday evening.
The Hornets dropped their seventh straight game to fall to 3-24 overall and 2-11 in the MEAC. The Bears won their second straight to improve to 15-14 and 9-5.
Delaware State trailed 46-36 at the half and fell behind 72-54 after a three-pointer by MSU's Stanley Davis with 10:45 left to play.
The Hornets answered with a 13-2 run, and pulled to within 74-67 on a lay-up by Fahim Jenetto off a feed from
John Crosby at the 8:27 mark of the second half.
Pinky Wiley had five points, including a three-point field goal, and
Omari Peek-Green knocked down a three-ball to key the DSU rally.
The Hornets pulled to within 80-75 when Crosby hit two free throws with 4:12 remaining in the game.
DSU could get no closer the rest of the way.
Wiley was high scorer for the Hornets with a season-high 26 points on 7-for-13 shooting from the field, including season-best five three-pointers (5-11), and seven free throws in eight attempts.

North Carolina A&T State 83, Maryland Eastern Shore 62
GREENSBORO, North Carolina — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's basketball team fell to the MEAC-leading North Carolina A&T Aggies 83-62 on Monday night (Feb. 24) inside the Corbett Sports Center.
The Hawks (5-23, 4-9 MEAC) began the game strong as they led 14-8 after a 3-pointer from redshirt senior
Ahmad Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio) at the 14:47 mark of the first half. Two minutes later, junior
Canaan Bartley (Miami, Florida) made a shot from long distance to put the team up 19-15, but Eastern Shore would hit a scoring drought after that. The Shore did not score for the next six minutes and the Aggies went on a 12-0 run in the process.
North Carolina A&T would continue to build on their lead and take a 43-27 lead into the locker room. They managed to shoot 56% from the field in the opening half, while attempting 18 free throws to just four for Maryland Eastern Shore in the opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, the Hawks saw the Aggies get their lead to 20 points after seven minutes had been played. The Shore would not go quietly as they got the lead down to 67-55 at the 6:42 mark following a layup from senior
Gabriel Gyamfi (Brampton, Ontario).

DURHAM, N.C. --
Jibri Blount had 20 points and 11 rebounds,
Deven Palmer added 15 points and North Carolina Central beat Howard 80-65 on Monday night for its 15th straight home victory.
C.J. Keyser chipped in with 12 points, and
Evan Clayborne and
Ty Graves each had 11 points for NCCU (14-13, 10-3 MEAC), which made 10 3-pointers. The Eagles only trail North Carolina A&T (11-3) for the league lead. NCCU outrebounded Howard 42-29, including 20-8 on the offensive glass, and turned 17 turnovers into 26 points.
Charles Williams led Howard (3-26, 0-13) with 22 points. Wayne Bristol added 11.
Howard led 19-10 before NCCU took the lead for good, at 20-19, during a 14-0 run. The Eagles led by as many as 25 points, after another 12-0 spurt for a 78-53 advantage, in the second half.

Bethune-Cookman 78, Norfolk State 55
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Despite almost 30 more attempts from the field, the Norfolk State men's basketball team could not find the bottom of the net in a 78-55 loss to Bethune-Cookman on Monday night at Moore Gymnasium.
The Spartans shot just 22 percent from the field, hitting 17-of-77 from the floor. They had 20 offensive rebounds and only half as much turnovers as B-CU (22-11). But the Wildcats shot nearly 50 percent overall to send NSU to its second straight loss.
The setback dropped the Spartans to 9-4 in the MEAC, one loss back of both North Carolina A&T (11-3) and North Carolina Central (10-3) for first place in the league.
Senior
Jermaine Bishop led NSU (13-15 overall) with 18 points, and junior
Devante Carter added 17 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. The duo combined for 12 of the team's 17 field goals, although it came on a combined 12-of-41 shooting. The rest of the team shot 5-of-36.
The Wildcats never trailed and their largest lead was the final margin, and they improved to 9-5 in the MEAC and 15-13 overall. Isaiah Bailey led all players with 21 points on 6-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds while hitting all seven free throw attempts. Malik Maitland totaled 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting with seven assists and six rebounds.
NSU, however, only trailed by 10 at the break and was tied with B-CU with less than 10 minutes to go in the first half.

Florida A&M 62, South Carolina State 56
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Four players scored in double figures as the Florida A&M University men's basketball team held off a late charge by South Carolina State in a 61-56 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory on Monday night at the Al Lawson Center.
FAMU (12-14 overall, 10-5 MEAC), which completed its first undefeated season at home since 1988-89, led 28-22 at the half, but surrendered the lead early in the second half before grabbing the lead for good. South Carolina State nearly rallied from a nine-point deficit late, but key foul shots by

Brendon Myles and
Bryce Moragne sealed the victory for the Rattlers.
Melton finished with a team-high 15 points, along with three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Moragne came off the bench to provide 14 points, five boards and one steal, while
MJ Randolph chipped in 12 points, four boards, two steals and two assists. Core added 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and one block.
Damani Applewhite paced South Carolina State with 13 points and three rebounds, while Ian Kinard registered a double-double of 14 rebounds and 10 points.
