NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 19, 2020Bethune-Cookman freshman Gerhard Sullwald was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Nicolas Rodriguez was named Men’s Rookie of the Week. On the women’s side. Morgan State sophomore Averiana Mitchell was named Player of the Week.
 
Sullwald (Fr., South Africa) won the clinching point against Keiser (ranked No. 7 in NAIA), defeating Geronimo Barrios 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles spot. He also paired with Victor Castro for a 6-2 double victory, and the duo also won their doubles match, 6-2, against Georgia Southern.
 
Rodriguez (Fr., Ecuador) was 3-0 on the week, defeating Keiser’s Joaquin Bianchi 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5 singles, while also recording doubles victories over Keiser (6-3) and Georgia Southern (6-2).
 
Mitchell (So., Las Vegas, Nev.) finished the week going a combined 2-0 following victories at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. She earned her third straight singles victory after defeating Natasha Novak of Duquesne 7-5, 6-3 in a No. 2 singles match – before teaming with Asmara Rose for a 6-2 defeat of Priyanka Mitta and Meredith Lee.

Aylen Hubeaut (FAMU) defeated Meredith Jones of Air Force 6-1, 6-2.
 
Jean-Baptiste Mbong (FAMU) defeated Troy’s Pelayo Antuna 6-2, 0-6, 11-9 and Spring Hill’s Cedric Nitz 6-3, 6-1.
 
Cem Erturk (MSU) came from behind to defeat Alex Macioli of Duquense 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
