MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 18, 2020North Carolina Central junior Kieche White and Coppin State senior Chance Graham were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central’s Anissa Rivera was named both Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week.
 
White (G, 5-4, Jr., Washington, D.C.) dropped a game-high 27 points in the Eagles’ double-overtime win over rival North Carolina A&T State, while also dishing out four assists and grabbing a pair of steals. She was 9-for-18 from the floor and made seven of her 10 free throws. White had 10 points in the two overtime periods, and she hit the game=tying shot that forced a second overtime – before scoring the first six points of the second extra frame.
 
Graham (F, 6-1, Sr., Upper Marlboro, Md.) averaged 21.5 points and 9.5 rebounds a game as Coppin State stretched its winning streak to three games this past weekend, including an upset of Norfolk State. Graham recorded her 10th double-double of the season in that game, dropping 22 points and grabbing 14 rebounds (12 defensive). She also had 21 points against South Carolina State, and for the week, Graham was a combined 14-for-23 (60.9 percent) from the floor.
 
Rivera (F, 6-1, Fr., Capitol Heights, Md.) had a monster game against North Carolina A&T State, dropping a career-high 26 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. She was 9-for-20 from the floor (45.0 percent) and hit seven of her nine free throws. Seven of her 12 rebounds came on the defensive end, and Rivera also had five steals and four blocks.
 
Other Top Performers
Tatum Hayes (B-CU) scored nine points on three 3-pointers against Delaware State.
 
Amaya Scott (B-CU) recorded a double-double (22 points, 10 rebounds) against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Tierra Floyd (DSU) had five steals and three blocks against Florida A&M to go along with 13 points.
 
Shalaunda Burney-Robinson (FAMU) dropped 26 points and grabbed 21 rebounds against Delaware State.
 
Alaina Rice (FAMU) had 15 points on five 3-pointers against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Ja’Niah Henson (MSU) scored eight points against Norfolk State.
 
Chelsea Mitchell (MSU) recorded a double-double (17 points, 16 rebounds) against South Carolina State – after an 18-point, five-steal game against Norfolk State.
 
Le’on Hill (NCAT) had seven rebounds and a blocked shot against North Carolina Central.
 
Cinia McCray (NCAT) had 22 points and five rebounds against North Carolina Central.
 
Chanette Hicks (NSU) had 19 points, six rebounds and six steals against Coppin State.
 
Adrienne Jones (UMES) had 25 points on 10-for-19 shooting against Florida A&M.
 
Mya Thomas (UMES) had 12 points against Florida A&M.
