Bethune-Cookman 88, Howard 59

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --
Five Bethune-Cookman players scored in double figures and clamped down on the defensive end on Monday, as the Lady Wildcats defeated Howard 88-59 in historic Moore Gymnasium.

Ashanti Hunt led the way with 20 points, and Daniella Hatcher poured in 19. Amaya Scott added 15 points of her own, and Ashlie Howell and Ciara Thompson each added 10.

Kiana Williams grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

A 23-9 first quarter set the tone for the Lady Wildcats (17-5, 9-1 MEAC), who currently hold sole possession of the conference lead. Howard only shot 23.8 percent (10-for-42) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, while B-CU was 16-for-36 (44.4 percent) in the first half.

The second half was even better for B-CU, which hit 55.2 percent of its shots in the final 20 minutes.

For the game, B-CU was 32-for-65 (49.2 percent) from the floor, while Howard struggled to the tune of 27.6 percent shooting (21-for-76).

Jayla Thornton led Howard (14-10, 6-5 MEAC) with 13 points.

Coppin State 66, Maryland Eastern Shore 63

BALTIMORE, Md. --
Four Eagles scored in double figures Monday night in PEC Arena as Coppin State picked up first win of the 2019-20 season, a 66-63 defeat of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Jalynda Salley led the way with 18 points off the bench. Chance Graham and Aliyah Lawson each added 11 points, while Alexandria Hamilton poured in 10.

With 22 seconds left, Adrienne Jones gave the Hawks a 63-62 lead, but she missed the second of two free throws. Salley answered 11 seconds later with a layup that gave Coppin State (1-22, 1-10 MEAC) the lead, 64-63, and Oloyede Oluwadamilola hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to ice the game.

Jones led UMES (5-17, 2-7 MEAC) with 18 points.

Delaware State 76, South Carolina State 64

ORANGEBURG, S.C. --
Delaware State defeated South Carolina State 76-64 on Monday night at the Smith-Hammond-Middelton Memorial Center.

The Lady Hornets never trailed in the game, and they improve to 10-12 on the season and 6-3 in the MEAC.

Delaware State shot an efficient 27-for-52 (51.9 percent) from the field, including 8-for-17 (47.1 percent) on 3-point attempts.

Tierra Floyd scored 14 points, while DeMaurea Moore added a season-high 12 points, adding four rebounds and a steal. Janasia Law filled up the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds, six assists and one steal. Lyric Turner added nine points, two rebounds and two assists.

South Carolina State made 33 of 54 shots (40.7 percent), but just 6 of 18 (40.7 percent) from behind the arc.

Heniaya Moten is the only Bulldog in double figures with a game-high 25 points.

Morgan State 86, North Carolina Central 79

BALTIMORE, Md. --
Dahnye Redd led Morgan State with 21 points and 12 rebounds, and the Lady Bears parlayed a strong third quarter into an 86-79 win over North Carolina Central Monday evening in the Hill Field House.

Morgan State improved to 12-12 overall and 8-3 in conference play.

On top of Redd's double-double, the Lady Bears got 20 points from Chelsea Mitchell (as well as six boards and five steals), 16 from Ashia McCalla and 13 from Jihayah Chavis (who also had six assists).

North Carolina Central had a three-point lead at the half, but Morgan State outscored the Eagles 26-14 in the third quarter to take a 64-55 lead into the fourth quarter. NCCU cut the lead to three in the closing seconds, 82-79 with 12 ticks left on the clock, but Morgan State hit two free throws and a layup to ice the game.

Kieche White led the Eagles (7-16, 4-6 MEAC) with 26 points. Paulina Afriyie had a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards.

North Carolina A&T State 66, Florida A&M 49

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --
Jayla Jones-Pack recorded a double-double to lead three Aggies in double figures Monday evening as North Carolina A&T State defeated Florida A&M 66-49 in the Al Lawson Center.

With the win, the Aggies (16-7, 8-3 MEAC) remain tied for third in the standings.

Jones-Pack had 13 points and 15 boards -- 11 of which came on the defensive end -- while Jasmen Walton and Deja Winters each added 11 points.

After things were knotted up at 27-27 at the half, the Aggies outscored FAMU 21-10 in the third quarter to break the game open. NCAT led 48-37 heading into the final 10 minutes, and they held a double-digit lead the rest of the way -- in part because FAMU shot just 20.0 percent (5-for-25) from the floor in the second half.

The Lady Rattlers were just 14-for-51 (27.5 percent) from the floor for the game.

Alaina Rice led the Lady Rattlers (4-18, 2-9 MEAC) with 10 points.
