NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 10, 2020 – Norfolk State’s Jazzmaine Hammond was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Teammate Lilly Potter was selected as Pitcher of the Week and Bethune-Cookman’s Isabella Sandoval was selected as Rookie of the Week.
 
Hammond (OF, Jr., Detroit, Mich.) had a .429 batting average after getting three hits, including a double, scoring three runs, driving in one RBI and racking up three stolen bases as the Spartans picked up two wins over the weekend. In the win over Robert Morris, Hammond was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
 
Potter (IF/P, So., Norfolk, Va.) made two appearances and won her only start this past weekend, finishing with a 0.91 ERA in 7.2 innings pitched. Potter allowed just one earned run while striking out four batters and holding opponents to a .185 batting average.
 
Sandoval (C/IF, Fr., Azusa, Calif.) had a .313 batting average with five hits in five games over the weekend. She had three doubles and eight total bases.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS 
Destiny Enriquez (B-CU) threw 19 innings and finished with a 2.21 ERA in five games, while striking out eight and holding opponents to a .213 batting average.
 
Samantha Kelley (B-CU) led the team with a .364 batting average in five games over the weekend.
 
Melkayla Irvis (FAMU) was 2-for-6 for a .333 average with an RBI in four games in the LSU Tiger Classic. She drove in a run against No. 13 Oklahoma State and finished the game with two hits.
 
Jamesia Stoudemire (FAMU) hit .200 for four games in the LSU Tiger Classic, but went 2-for-4 against Oklahoma State, scoring two runs and hitting a solo home run.
 
Gabriella Williams (FAMU) allowed just six hits against Oklahoma State while striking out two batters.
 
Camille Navarro (HOW) finished last week with .429 batting average with six hits and two stolen bases. She was a perfect 3-for-3 against Kent State.
 
Stephine Williams (NCAT) finished the week going 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored.
 
Tyanna Robert (UMES) was 4-for-13 at the plate for a .308 batting average while recording one run and an RBI.
 
Kaylyn Sterling (UMES) led the team with a .500 batting average, going 5-for-10 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. She also had three doubles, an .800 slugging percentage and .615 on-base percentage.
