Bethune-Cookman 78, Florida A&M 57

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --
Kiana Williams scored a career-high 24 point as Bethune-Cookman pulled away to a 78-57 road victory over arch-rival Florida A&M Saturday.
 
Daniella Hatcher added 14 points as the Lady Wildcats (15-5, 7-1 MEAC) won their seventh straight of the season as well as their eighth consecutive over the Rattlers (4-16, 2-7) to move a half-game up on Norfolk State – a 53-39 loser at North Carolina A&T State – for first place in the standings.
 
Williams, who was 8-for-9 from the field and 8-for-8 from the line in addition to posting four steals and four assists, keyed the Lady Wildcats’ pulling away from a 35-31 halftime lead as B-CU used a 12-2 run to start the second half to regain a double-digit lead in the third and a 70-46 lead with 5:35 remaining.
 
Florida A&M took its only lead at 28-27 on Kayla Massop’s lay-up with 5:09 remaining in the second quarter. Amaya Scott (nine points) answered to give BCU the lead back and start an 8-0 run.
 
B-CU scored the game’s first six points and went 11-14 from the line to take a 23-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
Ciara Thompson added eight points as Ashlie Howell six for the Lady Wildcats, who committed just five turnovers and shot 50 percent from the field (31-for-62).

Delaware State 72, Coppin State 55

DOVER, Del. --
Delaware State defeated Coppin State 72-55 Saturday afternoon in Memorial Hall. The Lady Hornets improved to 8-11 overall and 4-2 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on the season, eclipsing last season's win total.

Delaware State trailed 12-11 after the first quarter, but the Lady Hornets opened the second on a 11-4 run. The flurry started with Miajah Bullock finding her JUCO teammate DeMaurea Moore for a layup with 9:39 remaining in the quarter.

The run ended with Lanayjha Ashe scoring in transition taking a 23-16 lead with 4:43 left.

Tierra Floyd led the way with a team high 14 points, nine rebounds and two steals, while Ashe scored 13 points to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career and Sharajah Collins added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Hornets only led 33-31 with just over two minutes into the second half. Tierra Floyd responds by knocking down another triple extending the lead to five with 8:21 left in the quarter.

Morgan State 68, Howard 52

WASHINGTON, D.C. --
Chelsea Mitchell (26 points, 14 rebounds) and Dahnye Redd (14 points, 10 rebounds) both had double-doubles, and Ashia McCalla added 16 points Saturday afternoon as Morgan State defeated Howard 68-52 in Burr Gymnasium.

The Lady Bears improved to 7-2 in MEAC play, sitting third in the standings after their fifth straight win.

Howard led 34-27 at the half, but Morgan State went on a 14-3 run throughout the third quarter to take the lead and take control. In all, the Bison shot just 22.6 percent (7-for-31) from the floor in the second half and just 27.9 percent (17-for-61) for the game.

Morgan State shot 40.0 percent (28-for-70) from the floor and had a 53-38 advantage in rebounding.

Ayonna Williams and Gia Thorpe each had 12 points for the Bison (12-9, 4-4 MEAC).

North Carolina A&T State 53, Norfolk State 39

GREENSBORO, N.C. --
North Carolina A&T State received a humungous confidence boost Saturday afternoon at Corbett Sports Center as it defeated the top team in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in Norfolk State 53-39.
 
The Spartans (12-7, 6-1 MEAC) came into the game undefeated in the conference, while the Aggies (14-6, 6-2 MEAC) came in losers of two of their last three games and still smarting from not having MEAC Preseason Player of the Year C'coriea Foy in the lineup.
 
When it was over, the Aggies held the conference's leading scorer Chanette Hicks (21.9 points per game) to just eight points and the conference's second-best scoring team (68.0 ppg) to just 39 points and 29.6 percent shooting.

Junior center Jayla Jones-Pack stepped forward in a big way with 14 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Jasmen Walton had 10 points and no turnovers in 22 minutes of action and despite an off shooting night, senior Cinia McCray had 11 points, including the making of two huge plays down the stretch.

North Carolina Central 90, South Carolina State 49

DURHAM, N.C. --
Five Eagles scored in double figures as North Carolina Central coasted to a 90-49 win against South Carolina State Saturday afternoon in McDougald-McLendon Arena.
 
The 41-point victory is NCCU's biggest margin of victory in the program's NCAA Div. I era (since 2007-08) and most lopsided conquest since toppling Saint Paul's College by 50 points, 94-44, on Nov. 16, 2004.
 
The Eagles also scored 90 points for the first time against a Div. I opponent. NCCU last reached 90 points in a 95-82 triumph over Fayetteville State on Dec. 8, 2007.

The five Eagles to reach double digits in the scoring column were freshman forward Anissa Rivera (17), redshirt freshman guard Faith Williams (14), senior forward Paulina Afriyie (13), junior guard Kieche White (12) and senior wing Theyoung Puoy (11).
