The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has reached week three of a highly unusual 2020-21 season, which saw a number of cancellations last week. Schools will look to get back on track with a number of intriguing matchups against Power 5 schools, some strong mid-majors, and local rivals.
Coppin State, having visited Georgetown on Tuesday, will play host to James Madison on Thursday and local foe UMBC on Sunday.
North Carolina A&T State, having visited Longwood on Tuesday, will be just as busy, squaring off with VCU on Wednesday and Western Carolina on Saturday.
Florida A&M will take on Oregon on Wednesday and Oklahoma on Saturday.
South Carolina State will visit the College of Charleston on Friday.
After having three of its last four games cancelled, North Carolina Central will play host to Charleston Southern on Sunday in what will be the Eagles’ 2020-21 home opener.
Norfolk State guard Devante Carter earned MEAC Player of the Week honors after averaging 22 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists last week. Carter had a career-high 29 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists in a win over rival Hampton in the Battle of the Bay.
North Carolina A&T State’s Kameron Langley was named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week. Langley averaged 7.3 rebounds and 4.0 steals on the defensive end. He also averaged 9.7 points and 6.0 assists during a week that saw him get a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double with seven assists against the Citadel.
Howard’s Steve Settle III was named MEAC Rookie of the Week after scoring a career-high 23 points, grabbing three rebounds and handing out two assists against Bellarmine.
DeJjuan Clayton kept moving up the Coppin State scoring charts as he tallied nine points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals in his last outing against Drexel He has scored 1,321 points and passed CSU Hall of Famer Joe Pace for ninth on the school's all-time scoring list.
Prior to the win over Lincoln (Pa.), the last time the Morgan State scored 100+ points in a game was during last season's 115-112 triple overtime loss against Evansville at the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase in Nassau. It was the first 100-point home game win for the Bears since a 106-72 victory against Florida A&M on Jan. 5, 2004.
Morgan State (2-1) also picked up a win on Tuesday, beating Iona 83-72.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created strange circumstances in college basketball. North Carolina A&T State was one of the beneficiaries as the Aggies welcomed Stanford to the Corbett Sports Center this past Sunday.
Langley has 677 career assists so far in his career, just 23 shy of the 700 mark.
