MEAC Announces Weekly Women’s Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 8, 2020North Carolina Central sophomore Anissa Rivera was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, the conference office announced today. Morgan State graduate student Nina Carpenter was named Defensive Player of the Week.
 
Rivera (F, 6-1, So., Capitol Heights, Md.) had an all-around game on Monday against High Point, dropping a season-high 19 points on 6-for-16 shooting, hitting four 3-pointers and going 3-for-4 from the free throw line. She also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds (six on the defensive end) and blocked five shots.
 
Carpenter (C, 6-3, Gr., Las Vegas, Nev.) was a defensive force in the Lady Bears’ 65-57 win over Saint Pete’s on Saturday, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds (seven on the defensive end) while also blocking a team-high five shots.
 
Other Top Performers
Sharajah Collins (DSU) had a team high-tying 11 points, to go along with four rebounds, four assists and three steals in a season-opening win over Rider.
 
Ja’Niah Henson (MSU) has 12 points, two assists and two steals against Saint Peter’s.
 
Jalynn Holmes (NSU) had 15 points and five rebounds against Liberty.
 
Heniaya Moton (SCSU) dropped 23 points and hit five 3-pointers against Winthrop.
