MEAC Announces Weekly Men’s Basketball Honors, presented by Coca-Cola

NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 8, 2020 — Norfolk State senior guard Devante Carter has been tabbed the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Coca-Cola, it was announced today, and senior guard Kameron Langley of North Carolina A&T State has earned Defensive Player of the Week. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman forward Steve Settle III of Howard picked up Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Carter (G, 6-3, 210, Sr., Newport News, Va.) posted averages of 22.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists as the Spartans defeated rival Hampton on Monday after falling to crosstown foe Old Dominion on Saturday. Carter had a career-high 29 points to go along with nine rebounds and eight assists against Hampton, connecting on 11 of 13 shots from the field (84.6%) and seven of 10 shots from the free throw line (70%). Against ODU, he totaled 15 points, five assists and four rebounds.
 
Langley (G, 6-2, 165, Sr., High Point, N.C.) averaged 7.3 rebounds and 4.0 steals on the defensive end in the Aggies’ win over Charleston Southern and losses to The Citadel and Stanford. He also averaged 9.7 points and 6.0 assists during a week that saw him get a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double with seven assists against The Citadel.
 
Settle (F, 6-10, 175, r-Fr., Glenarden, Md.) did his part in the Bison’s game against Bellarmine on Sunday, playing like an upperclassman in the 84-63 loss while scoring 23 points, grabbing three rebounds and dishing out a pair of assists.
 
Other Top Performers
DeJuan Clayton (CSU)
 averaged 9.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.0 steals in the Eagles’ losses to George Washington and Drexel. Against GWU, he had 10 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. 
 
Kenan Sarvan (CSU) averaged 6.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots against George Washington and Drexel. Against GWU, he netted 10 points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots.
 
Anthony Tarke (CSU) averaged 16.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals as the Eagles lost road games at George Washington and Drexel. He had 22 points, eight rebounds and two steals against GWU, followed by 11 points, eight rebounds and one steal against Drexel.
 
Kyle Foster (HOW) netted 16 points while accumulating three steals and two rebounds against Bellarmine.
 
De’Torrion Ware (MSU) led the Bears to their first win of the season, a 102-94 victory over Lincoln (Pa.) on Tuesday, Dec. 1. He drilled 6-of-8 3-pointers and scored 24 points off the bench.
 
C.J. Keyser (NCCU) scored 19 points at Coastal Carolina on Sunday, including 11 in the first half.
 
Jordan Perkins (NCCU) had 10 points, four rebounds, six assists and two steals in the Eagles’ loss at Coastal Carolina.
 
Kyonze Chavis (NSU) averaged 10.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in the Spartans’ games against ODU and Hampton, scoring 12 points with a career-high nine rebounds and three assists against ODU.
