The holidays are upon us now as Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) basketball continues in week five of the season. Last week saw several games get cancelled, but schools will look to regroup as non-conference play begins to wrap up.
For the second straight week, the weekly honors were almost swept by one school. This week, it was Howard’s turn following the Bison’s win over rival Hampton. Morgan State kept the weekly honors from being a clean sweep by Howard.
Khalil Robinson of Howard was named the MEAC Player of the Week after scoring a career-high 19 points to go along with nine assists and seven boards to lead the Bison. He had a very efficient night, going 4-for-7 (57.1%) from the floor and 11-for-15 (73.3%) from the free throw line.
Howard’s Sam Green was named MEAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week along with Morgan State’s Malik Miller after producing his first double-double as a Bison in the win over Hampton, grabbing 10 rebounds and scoring 13 points while blocking three shots.
Miller continues to be a standout for Morgan State, racking up 17 rebounds (6.5 avg.), five steals (2.5 avg.) and two blocks (1.0 avg.) in the Bears’ six-point win over Delaware and six-point loss to West Virginia Tech. He also averaged 12.0 points during the week.
Steve Settle of Howard, the MEAC Rookie of the Week, recorded his first double-double in the Bison’s victory over Hampton, recording 18 points and 12 rebounds. He added two assists, two blocked shots and one steal in a contest that saw him shoot 50 percent (6-for-12) from the field and 85.7 percent (6-for-7) from the line.
This was the second time Settle has won the honor this season.
