NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk State men's basketball program began the early signing period with a commitment from junior college guard Cahiem Brown. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Brown recently signed an NLI to play for the Spartans beginning in the 2021-22 season.
He is currently in his second year at Georgia Highlands College after averaging nearly 16 points per game his redshirt freshman season in 2019-20. A 6-5, 200-pound guard, Brown will arrive at NSU with two years of eligibility left.
"We are excited to add a player the caliber of Cahiem Brown to the Spartan family," head coach Robert Jones said. "He continues the recent trend of high-quality athletes choosing HBCUs. He is the first junior college All-American we have signed during my tenure. He can handle the ball, shoot the 3-pointer, and play defense. He also is going to bring tremendous toughness to our program."
Brown averaged 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game last year for Georgia Highlands on the way to earning honorable mention Division I All-America accolades from the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association). He shot 46 percent from the field, including 34 percent from deep. He also made 77 percent from the free throw line, getting to the charity stripe nearly 200 times in 32 games played.
He was also a NJCAA/GCAA (Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association) first-team All-Region and a GCAA All-Freshman Team honoree last year. Brown scored at least 20 points in 11 games and had at least 12 points in the last 19 games of the season. He led the Chargers to a 24-8 record and to NJCAA Region 17/GCAA tournament final.
Originally committed to UTEP out of Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn for the 2018-19 season, Brown did not compete for the Miners that year before heading to Georgia Highlands. As a senior at Abraham Lincoln in 2017-18, he averaged 19.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game to earn first-team All-Brooklyn honors. He also averaged 17.8 points per game his junior year of high school.
He held offers from schools such as Seton Hall, Minnesota, Manhattan and Hofstra before committing to UTEP.
