MEAC Announces 2020 Bowling Preseason Honors, Presented by TowneBank

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 1, 2020 – North Carolina A&T State senior Cameron Strombeck was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Preseason Bowler of the Year, presented by TowneBank, the conference announced today. Defending champion Maryland Eastern Shore was tabbed as the preseason favorite to take the MEAC regular-season crown.
 
All awards were voted on by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
 
Strombeck bowled 1,075 total frames last season, averaging 20.15 pins per frame (the highest such average among returning MEAC bowlers). She had a 49.3 strike percentage to go along with a 86.0 fill percentage (strikes and spares). She sat at 73.0 percent in all spare conversions, and her single-pin spare conversion was 89.2 percent. Strombeck was a First Team All-MEAC selection last year, and she also earned Third Team All-America honors after leading the Aggies to a No. 9 national ranking at the end of the season.
 
Joining Strombeck on the Preseason All-MEAC team are teammate Ericka Quesada, Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore Brooke Roberts (the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Year) and junior Chloe Skurzynski, as well as Monmouth junior Saige Yamada.
 
The Hawks, who were undefeated in conference play last season, racked up 15 first-place votes and 229 points. North Carolina A&T State, with 220 points and four first-place votes, was picked to come in second, with Delaware State (two first-place votes) and Monmouth (one first-place vote) coming in third and fourth, respectively.
 
UAB was picked to finish fifth. The five MEAC programs to be nationally ranked at the end of the 2019-20 season were chosen to finish in the top five spots.
 
Florida A&M, Howard, Coppin State, Morgan State, Norfolk State and Bethune-Cookman rounded out the preseason poll.
 
The 2021 MEAC Bowling Championship is currently set for March 20-21 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Va.
