2019-20 MEAC Women's Basketball Statistics | MEAC Women's Basketball Notes
NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 9, 2020--The second weekend of conference play is nigh for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) 11 women's basketball programs, and Saturday and Monday will both feature a full slate of five games each.
Norfolk State is atop the standings at 2-0 after the first weekend, having already defeated the likes of Bethune-Cookman and Coppin State. Preseason favorite North Carolina A&T State is 1-0 after opening with a win over Florida A&M, and after the first weekend of MEAC play, Delaware State and North Carolina Central are also 1-0.
Defending tournament champion Bethune-Cookman, Howard, Morgan State and South Carolina State are each 1-1.
Morgan State's Chelsea Mitchell and North Carolina Central's Paulina Afriyie were named MEAC Co-Players of the Week after the first weekend of conference play, after the two combined for three double-doubles in three games this past weekend.
Coppin State's Alexandria Hamilton was named Rookie of the Week, while Norfolk State's Chanette Hicks -- who averaged 6.0 steals per game this past week -- again earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hicks is proving to be one of the nation's most prolific players on both sides of the ball. After Monday's games, she ranks second in all of Div.
