NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 30, 2020--The grind of conference play continues with nine games this week as February kicks off. Three games on Saturday will be featured on FloHoops and one game on Monday will be on ESPNU.
Saturday’s slate will feature a number of games, including a streaking Norfolk State traveling to Greensboro, N.C. to face North Carolina A&T State in a battle of the top two teams in the conference. The Spartans come in undefeated (6-0), while the Aggies enter the game 6-1 in league play.
The other key game will see South Carolina State travel to Durham, N.C. to face North Carolina Central. The game will be streamed live on FloHoops, as will the Bethune-Cookman-Florida A&M and Morgan State-Howard contests.
Coppin State will wrap up Saturday’s slate with a visit to Delaware State.
Norfolk State and South Carolina State will continue their treks through the Tar Heel state when they visit North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T State, respectively, on Monday. The Norfolk State-North Carolina Central game will tip off on ESPNU at 7 p.m.
Coppin State will play Howard and Maryland Eastern Shore will conclude the day by taking on Delaware State.
Coppin State’s Brendan Medley-Bacon continued his strong stretch of play as he pulled down a career-high 24 boards against crosstown foe Morgan State. His 24 rebounds matched George Washington's Arnaldo Toro and Hasahn French of Saint Louis for the most in a single game in NCAA Div. I this season.
Medley-Bacon was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week for his performance.
MILESTONES & HIGHLIGHTS
Medley-Bacon broke former NBA player Larry Stewart's old school record (NCAA-era only) of 21 rebounds, which he recorded twice in his Eagles career. In addition, the Eagles’ Koby Thomas poured in a career-high 24 points in the win over Howard.
Florida A&M’s MJ Randolph tied a career high with 27 points in the Rattlers’ win over Howard.
Howard’s Charles Williams continues his pursuit of history as he scored a combined 34 points over the weekend against Florida A&M and Coppin State. He has now scored 2,197 points in his career, and he trails Delaware State’s Tom Davis (2,275 points) for the all-time MEAC scoring record.
Howard’s Wayne Bristol, Jr. finished with a team-high 28 points against Coppin State. This was the freshman’s third 25-point game of the season, and he was named MEAC Rookie of the Week for his efforts.
North Carolina A&T State’s Kameron Langley had a triple-double against Delaware State with 15 points, 12 assists, and 10 boards…the first in the MEAC since North Carolina Central’s Patrick Cole accomplished that feat in 2006. Langley has recorded 532 career assists, and he needs 50 assists to break the Aggies’ school record and 91 to break the MEAC’s record.
Langley is tied for first in the nation in triple-doubles and fourth in assists per game (6.7).
The Aggies have won 20 straight conference games at the Don Corbett Sports Center.
North Carolina Central’s Jibri Blount tied his career high with 33 points as the Eagles won their rematch with Delaware State.
Bethune-Cookman’s Cletrell Pope still ranks high in the NCAA rankings in a number of categories. He is first in offensive rebounds per game (4.67), fourth in rebounds per game (11.8 and total rebounds (248) and fifth in double-doubles (12).
