PITTSBURGH, Pa.--North Carolina A&T State running back highlights the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) presence on the 2019 Power News Radio Network (PNRN) Black College All-America Team. Martin was named the team's Offensive Player of the Year and was one of 11 MEAC student-athletes on the team.
Aggies coach Sam Washington was named PNRN Coach of the Year after leading the Aggies to their third straight conference championship (shared or outright) and their third straight Celebration Bowl title.
Joining Martin on the offensive side of the team were Florida A&M wide receiver Xavier Smith, North Carolina A&T State offensive lineman Marcus Pettiford (the 2019 MEAC Offensive Lineman of the Year) and South Carolina State offensive lineman Alex Taylor.
Aggies kicker Noel Ruiz made the team as placekicker. Florida A&M's Chris Faddoul (punter) and Bethune-Cookman's Jimmie Robinson (return specialist) were also honored in special teams.
On defense, the MEAC landed South Carolina State defensive lineman Tyrell Goodwin, North Carolina Central defensive lineman Darius Royster (the 2019 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year), Morgan State linebacker Rico Kennedy and North Carolina Central defensive back Bryan Mills.
In 1927, William G. Nunn, Sr. was managing editor of the Pittsburgh Courier and began coverage of HBCU football with reports, rankings and annual All-America teams. Bill Nunn, Jr. replaced him until he was hired by the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers. The coverage continued with the Sheridan Broadcasting Network (SBN).
In 1990, Ty Miller joined SBN and extended the coverage of the sport beyond the network's existence. The veteran sports anchor and play-by-play man is also a member of the Black College Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee.
The PNRN Black College All-America Team is announced annually surrounding the holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
