NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 22, 2020Morgan State senior Nihit Rawal was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today, and Florida A&M’s Eliott Ekindi was named Rookie of the Week. On the women’s side, Morgan State junior Asmara Rose was named Player of the Week and teammate Ana-Lei Kalawe earned Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Rawal (Sr., Chandigarh, India) helped Morgan State open the season with a 4-1 win over Saint Francis (Pa.). He won his doubles match with Sebastian Lopez, 6-3 over Andrew Teixeira and Derek Roehner, before he took his No. 3 singles match 6-2, 6-3 over Teixeira.
 
Ekindi (Fr., Aigremont, France) picked up his first collegiate win on Saturday, a three-set victory over Florida Gulf Coast’s Guglielmo Stefanacci, 6-0, 6-7 (3-7), 10-3.
 
Rose (Jr., Baltimore, Md.) picked up doubles and singles wins in the Lady Bears’ 4-0 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.). She paired with Averiana Mitchell for a 6-3 doubles win over Lucia Seigford and Anouk Ma-Ajong, then she defeated Seigford in the No. 2 singles slot, 6-0, 6-3.
 
Kalawe (Fr., Charleston, S.C.) defeated Camryn Rossa of Saint Francis (Pa.) 6-1, 6-4 in No. 5 singles in her collegiate debut.
 
Other Top Performers
Rachel Harden (FAMU) defeated Georgia Southern’s Arianne De Winter 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) and also picked up a doubles win.
