Howard's Williams Nominated for Senior CLASS Award

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Jan. 21, 2020–Howard University senior guard Charles Williams was one of 60 NCAA ® men's and women's basketball student-athletes nominated for the 2019-20 Senior CLASS Award.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Williams has had an incredible tenure at Howard, both on and off the court since his freshman campaign. Every year, expectations have been high on the 6-foot-6 guard and he has rose to the occasion and surpassed them every time.

In competition, he became the school's all-time scoring leader while racking up numerous individual accolades. Currently, the Richmond, Va., native looks to break the conference's all-time scoring mark.

In the community, he has volunteered with Be The Match and The Grassroot Project while being a role model to kids and encouraging them to have open conversations about their well-being.

In May 2020, Williams will graduate with his Bachelor's degree in four years as a Health Management major in the College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences. His career goal is to manage a healthcare facility.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community; classroom; character and competition.

The men's and women's candidates will be narrowed into two fields of 10 finalists in February, and those names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four C's of community, classroom, character and competition.

The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men's Final Four® and NCAA Women's Final Four® this spring.
