NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 21, 2020—
South Carolina State junior Heniaya Moton was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina Central’s Anissa Rivera was named Rookie of the Week, while
North Carolina A&T State senior Le’on Hill earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Moton (G, 5-7, Jr., Washington, D.C.) averaged 20.5 points this past week as the Bulldogs split a pair of games. Her best performance came on Monday in a 60-55 home win over Maryland Eastern Shore – a game in which Moton dropped a season-high 33 points (one shy of tying her career high) on 8-for-15 shooting and a 5-for-12 effort from 3-point range. She also had four rebounds, two assists and a steal in that contest.
Rivera (F, 6-1, Fr., Capitol Heights, Md.) averaged 12.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game this past week, to go along with 3.5 blocked shots and 3.0 steals per contest. She had a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) in an overtime win at Florida A&M, a game in which she also had five blocks and four steals, and she dropped 13 points to go along with four rebounds, two blocks and two steals against Bethune-Cookman.
Hill (F, 6-2, Sr., Columbia, S.C.) averaged 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocked shots and 2.0 steals in two contests this past week. Of her 25 total rebounds, 17 came on the defensive end. In Monday’s loss to Morgan State, Hill tied her career high with 16 rebounds (11 defensive), while also blocking a career-high five shots and recording a steal. On Saturday, she had nine rebounds (six defensive), three steals and two blocked shots against Coppin State.

Morgan Beacham (B-CU) had eight points and two steals, hitting all eight of her free throws against North Carolina Central.
Amaya Scott (B-CU) had five steals and a block against North Carolina Central.
Ciara Thompson (B-CU) went 7-for-9 from the floor and had 18 points against North Carolina Central.
Tyree Allen (CSU) had 13 points on 4-for-7 shooting against North Carolina A&T State.
Kailya Jackson (FAMU) dropped 21 points against North Carolina Central on 8-for-18 shooting.
Alaina Rice (FAMU) had seven points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals against South Carolina State.
Krislyn Marsh (HOW) grabbed 10 boards against Morgan State.
Ayonna Williams (HOW) dropped 23 points to go along with seven rebounds and four steals against Morgan State.
Jihayah Chavis (MSU) dropped 26 points and had five assists in a win over Howard.
Chelsea Mitchell (MSU) grabbed seven steals against North Carolina A&T State and averaged 5.0 steals a game for the week.
Cinia McCray (NCAT) dropped 20 points to go along with six rebounds, six steals and four assists in a win over Coppin State.
Zaria Atkins (NCCU) dropped 16 points against Florida A&M, while also dishing out four assists and grabbing three steals.
Ta’Liyah Edmonds (NSU) had eight points and three rebounds against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Chanette Hicks (NSU) gad 17 points, six assists and three steals against Maryland Eastern Shore.
Mikaela Jones (NSU) grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots against Maryland Eastern Shore.
