TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Nasir Core and
Rod Melton, Jr. each scored 17 points as the Florida A&M University men's basketball team avoided the season sweep with a 66-57 victory over North Carolina Central in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game on Monday afternoon at the Al Lawson Center.
Florida A&M (5-12 overall, 3-3 MEAC), which halted the NCCU win streak at two games, led 27-17 at the break and led by as many as 23 points midway through the second half.
Melton finished with 17 points, on 7-of-15 shooting, with seven rebounds, while Core registered 17 points, four boards, one steal and one assist.
MJ Randolph tallied 12 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists.
CJ Keyser led North Carolina Central (7-12, 3-2) with 13 points, six rebounds, one block, one steal and one assist. Jibri Blount, the MEAC's top scorer, was held in check as he finished with 12 points and eight boards. Deven Palmer added 12 points, while Jordan Perkins chipped in 11.

Ian Kinard tossed in a team-high 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead South Carolina State to an, 68-53, victory over Maryland Eastern Shore Monday (Jan. 20
th) at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.
South Carolina State improves to 8-8 overall, 4-1 in the MEAC, while UMES falls to 2-18 and 1-4 in the league. The Bulldogs move into 2
nd place in league standings behind leader Norfolk State.
"First off I am super proud of our guys and the way we played as a team tonight," said head coach
Murray Garvin. When Applewhite went out the game in the first half with a minor injury. It seemed like our guys went to another level without one of our main leaders."
"That is a great sign of a well-rounded team and the win puts us at 9-8 on the year and it has been a long time since we have been over 500 at this time of year," noted Garvin. I am extremely happy to have the coaching staff that we have, and our program keeps persevering. UMES is a very well-coached team and their record doesn't indicate their talent level. Their post guy Cheeseman is very good and gave us some problems in the paint."
The Bulldogs had four players to finish with double figures including senior guard Zach Sellers with 11 points and four assists and
Damani Applewhite and
Tashombe Riley finished with 10 each respectively.
South Carolina State dominated in several categories including points in the paint (32-28), points off turnovers (21-8) and bench points 35-23.

BALTIMORE, Md. – Junior guard
Kameron Langley posted career-highs in points (22) and assists (12) to lead the North Carolina A&T Aggies to a critical 76-70 win over Morgan State, Monday night at Hill Field House in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's basketball action.
"Grit," said acting head coach Will Jones. "That's grit. Coming in and playing a tough Morgan team. That's how you get it done for 40 minutes. Great leadership from Kam Langley. Big-time."
Langley continues to march toward the Aggies all-time assists record. He needs 74 more assists to break Thomas Griffis for the all-time record.
Senior forward
Ronald Jackson recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 18 rebounds.

Andre Jackson added 15 points to round out double-figure scoring for the Aggies.
With the Aggies leading 35-33 coming out of the break, N.C. A&T utilized an 13-2 run to jump ahead, 48-35 with under 16 minutes remaining. The Bears rallied, however, and made it a five-point game, 52-47, over the next few minutes. Clinging to a one-point advantage, 63-62, Langley took over.
He scored six of the Aggies final 13 points to lift the Aggies down the stretch. Langley had 13 second-half points. His layup with 29 seconds remaining gave the Aggies a 74-70 lead. It was
Ronald Jackson who had the game-clinching defensive rebound after a Stanley Davis miss with 14 seconds remaining.

Yale 89, Howard 75
WASHINGTON --
Paul Atkinson had 21 points as Yale beat Howard 89-75 on Monday for their school-record 12th nonconference regular-season victory.
Matthue Cotton had 15 points for Yale (13-4), which has won 11 of its last 12 games.
Azar Swain added 12 points, and
Jordan Bruner had 10 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.
Bruner was named the Ivy League player of the week earlier on Monday. He leads the league in rebounding and was 7 of 12 as the Bulldogs knocked off Brown for their seventh straight league opener.
Kyle Foster had 19 points for the Bison (2-18), who have now lost eight games in a row.
Charles Williams added 16 points and Wayne Bristol Jr. had 14 points.
