HOUSTON, Texas – Jordan Jefferson registered her 34th career double-double with 14 kills and 15 digs as Bethune-Cookman downed Texas Southern 3-1 (26-28, 25-16,25-12,25-17) at Barnett Fieldhouse.
Tynesha Adams added 11 kills and matched a career-high with six blocks, and Faith Landreneaux posted 10 kills, five service aces and four blocks as the Lady Wildcats (1-3) registered their first win of the season in the first of a two-match series with the Lady Tigers.
Friday's match will be at Austin High School in Sugar Land, Texas – head coach Brittany Williams' alma mater.
After squandering a 23-20 lead in dropping the first set, B-CU only trailed twice – 1-0 and 3-1 in the second set – to convincingly take the final three sets. The Lady Wildcats jumped out to leads of 8-0 in the third set and 9-2 in the fourth. Texas Southern never got closer than four points in either of those final two sets after the B-CU starts.
Shayla Eugene led the B-CU defense with 18 digs, while Miranda White posted 12 digs in addition to five kills. Ryleigh Taylor and Kortney Curtis finished with 27 and 16 assists, respectively.
