Weekly MEAC Volleyball Notes | 2019 MEAC Volleyball Statistics
All 11 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball programs are in action again this weekend, with nine of them competing in tournaments spread throughout much of the country. Bethune-Cookman, which has its home tournament this weekend canceled due to Hurricane Dorian, is instead traveling to Texas for a pair of matches against Texas Southern.
After the first week, Morgan State holds the best record in the league at 3-1, with wins over Seton Hall, William & Mary and Siena. Coppin State is 2-2 with wins over Binghamton and Siena, and Maryland Eastern Shore opened this past weekend with wins over Saint Peter's and NJIT.
Delaware State, Florida A&M and Howard also recorded wins in the season's first week.
Morgan State notched two MEAC weekly honors, with Zoe McBride being named Player of the Week and Roi Wallace taking home Setter of the Week honors. Anadys Valentin of Delaware State was named Rookie of the Week, and the Defensive Specialist of the Week award went to Coppin State's Ashley Roman.
Coppin State will be in El Paso, Texas this weekend for the UTEP Invitational, while Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore will both be in Pennsylvania for a tournament co-hosted by Lafayette and Lehigh. Florida A&M will be in Lafayette, La. for a tournament, and Howard heads to Queens, N.Y. for a tournament hosted by St. John's.
Morgan State, at Fairleigh Dickinson, will be on the road for the first time in 2019. Norfolk State's first tournament of the season will take the Spartans to Radford, Va., and North Carolina A&T State will remain in-state to play three matches at UNC Asheville.
North Carolina Central will have a home-and-home against Campbell, before taking on Wofford Saturday evening, and South Carolina State will compete in the Coastal Carolina Tournament -- which was moved from Myrtle Beach, S.C. to Greensboro, N.C. because of Hurricane Dorian.
