NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 30, 2019—
Morgan State sophomore Zoe McBride was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Delaware State’s Jordan Vang was named Rookie of the Week, while
North Carolina Central sophomore Arlanda Faulkner earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and
Eagles sophomore Celene Morris was named Setter of the Week.
McBride (6-0, So., OH/RS, Ridgefield, Wash.) hit .291 in two matches to open conference play this past weekend, averaging 5.2 kills and 2.0 digs per set. In Friday’s opener against Maryland Eastern Shore, McBride had 27 kills to go along with nine digs and a career-high four service aces – hitting .299 – before adding 25 kills and 11 digs on Sunday against Delaware State – a match in which she also had three total blocks and two aces.
Vang (5-10, Fr., OH, Ontario, Canada) averaged 3.4 kills per set for the Hornets as they opened MEAC play 1-1 this past weekend, while also averaging 1.6 digs per set and hitting .294 over the course of eight sets played. She opened the weekend with 10 kills and seven digs against Coppin State, before turning in a 17-kill, six-dig, .378 effort in Sunday’s five-set win at Morgan State.
Faulkner (5-9, So., OH/RS, Goldsboro, N.C.) was a defensive force at the net and all over the court, helping lead the Eagles to their first two wins of the season, averaging 1.4 blocks and 2.1 digs per set. In a non-conference win over The Citadel, Faulkner had nine digs and eight total blocks (while also racking up 11 kills), and she added six digs and two blocks in Sunday’s conference win over South Carolina State.
Morris (5-8, So., S, Rockford, Ill.) averaged 11 digs per set for the Eagles this past week. She opened the week with a 41-assist, 14-dig double-double (her third of the season) as North Carolina Central defeated The Citadel in four sets for their first win of 2019, and she followed that up on Sunday with 36 assists and five kills in a sweep of South Carolina State.
