MEAC Announces Weekly Cross Country Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 25, 2019North Carolina A&T State sophomore Regan Kimtai was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, the conference office announced today. Maryland Eastern Shore freshman Aurelia Jepkorir was named Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
 
Kimtai (So., Eldoret, Kenya) was the only non-Michigan runner to finish in the top five in the adidas Challenge on Friday. He finished fourth, surrounded by Michigan runners that took seven of the top eight positions, with a personal best of 17:54.20, his best 6K time by almost a minute. He averaged 4:48.1 per mile during the meet – and when averaged out to 8K, his estimated time was 24 minutes, 17 seconds (which would be fastest in the conference this season).
 
Jepkorir (Fr., Eldoret, Kenya) ran away with the victory at the Maryland Eastern Shore Invitational on Saturday, completing the 5K coursein 18:28.40. Her performance helped the host Hawks to a second-place finish in the team standings.
 
Other Top Performers
Carlin Berryhill (B-CU) finished third in the men’s 8K race at the Embry-Riddle Spike Classic.
 
Shyanne Mayes (B-CU) placed 12th (21:43) to pace the Lady Wildcats at Embry-Riddle.
 
Tatiana Ogundeko (CSU) took second overall at the Eastern Shore Invite in personal-best time of 19:09, besting her PR by 30 seconds.
 
Rachel Field (MSU) led the Bears with a time of 21:02.3 to place 21st overall.
 
Edwin Kipruto (UMES) paced the men in the 8K with a fourth-place finish (26:55.70).
