Rawal, Gupta Win Loyola Maryland Invite Titles

BALTIMORE, Md., Sept. 24, 2019--It was another successful weekend for the Morgan State men's tennis team as they competed in the Loyola (Md.) Invitational this past weekend. Loyola, Mount St. Mary's, Goucher, Johns Hopkins and Morgan State were the teams participating. 

It was a Davis Cup style tournament where you played one doubles match, followed by 1 vs. 1 and 2 vs. 2. The team that won 2-of-3 matches moved onto the next round. 

Seniors Nihit Rawal and Shrey Gupta were the Loyola Maryland Invite champions, finishing 4-0 in both singles and doubles for the weekend. Rawal/Gupta defeated Armstrong/Hine Mount St. Mary's in the final 6-2, while Nihit Rawal defeated Armstrong 6-4, 6-1 and Shrey Gupta defeated Carl Hine 7-6 (0), 6-3. This is the second straight weekend that Rawal and Gupta have won their respective doubles matches and they are undefeated on the fall season as partners.

Sebastian Lopez went 4-0 in singles for the weekend defeating Carl Hine from Mount St. Mary's 6-0, 6-0 as well as Glazer from Loyola 6-0, 6-1 on the way to his undefeated singles weekend. Lopez partnered with Oguzhan Ceylan and they went 1-1 in doubles and then Lopez partnered with freshman Mark Amaefule and they went 1-0 in doubles. Lopez finished 6-1 between singles and doubles over the weekend.

Amaefule also shined for the Bears as he went 3-1 in singles action and 3-2 doubles action pairing with both Lopez and Kharchev. Amaefule defeated Gower from Loyola 6-3, 3-2 on his way to a successful tournament. 

Serhii Kharchev went 2-2 in doubles with Amaefule on the weekend defeating Goucher and Loyola.
