NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 23, 2019—
North Carolina A&T State junior Edie Brewer was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina A&T State’s Addy Warfield was named Rookie of the Week, while
North Carolina A&T State sophomore Andrea Laboy-Rivera earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and
Morgan State senior Roi Wallace was named Setter of the Week.
Brewer (6-0, Jr., S, West Chester, Ohio) recorded two more triple-doubles for the Aggies, and nearly had a third, to give her three for the season and four for her career. Brewer hit .349 in four matches this past week, averaging 3.5 kills, 6.2 assists and 2.7 digs per set. After opening the week with a 19-kill effort against USC Upstate, hitting .621 in that match, Brewer went for 32 assists, 17 digs and 11 kills against Western Carolina – before rocking Drake for 30 assists, 22 kills and 10 digs. She almost had yet another triple-double against UNC Wilmington, going for 16 assists to go along with nine digs and eight kills.
Warfield (5-9, Fr., S, Winter Springs, Fla.) had double-doubles against Western Carolina and Drake this past weekend, going for 21 assists and 16 digs against Western Carolina before adding 26 assists and 14 digs in the Drake match. Warfield averaged nearly five assists per set, to go along with 2.2 digs per set, and she now has three double-doubles in her first collegiate season.
Laboy-Rivera (5-5, So., DS, Coamo, Puerto Rico) averaged 5.1 digs per set for the Aggies this past week, and she had her first career double-double of 32 digs (a career high) and 10 assists against Western Carolina. She followed that performance with 25 digs against Drake, and Laboy-Rivera opened the week with 15 digs against USC Upstate.
Wallace (5-9, Sr., S, San Dimas, Calif.) averaged nearly 10 assists per set for the Lady Bears in the Hoya Invitational this past weekend – including a 55-assist performance on Saturday in a five-set win over Binghamton – a win that snapped a six-match losing streak. Wallace also had 45 assists (to go along with eight digs) on Friday against tournament host Georgetown and 29 against FIU.
Other Top Performers
Jordan Jefferson (B-CU) had 13 kills and 25 digs against Nicholls State.
Faith Landreneaux (B-CU) had nine total blocks against Nicholls State.
Bailey Robinson (B-CU) had 13 kills each against Nicholls State and Louisiana Tech.
Ryleigh Taylor (B-CU) recorded a double-double against Nicholls State with 32 assists and 13 digs.
Miajavon Coleman (CSU) racked up 16 kills against Southeastern Louisiana and 10 against Loyola (Md.).
Christa Johnson (CSU) had seven total blocks against Southeastern Louisiana.
Brianna Lang (CSU) dished out 35 assists against Southeastern Louisiana and 25 against Marshall.
Ashley Roman (CSU) averaged nearly four digs per set.
Ryanne Burnett (DSU) had 15 kills and 13 digs against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Jasmal Cruz (DSU) had 29 digs against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Jelena Dukic (DSU) recorded a double-double (52 assists, 17 digs) against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Semira Blair (HOW) had 23 assists against Rutgers.
Tamar Wells (HOW) hit .526 against Rutgers with 12 kills and seven blocks.
Zoe McBride (MSU) had three-double-doubles over the weekend, including 19 kills and 23 digs against Binghamton.
Jennevy Santos (MSU) racked up 30 digs against Binghamton.
Stella Johnson (UMES) had 22 digs against Central Connecticut State.
Alexis Lee (UMES) racked up 25 kills against Lafayette and 17 against both St. Francis Brooklyn and Hartford.
