LOUISVILLE, Ky., Sept. 19, 2019 – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced open registration for the 2019-20 NFCA Coaches Clinics where Howard University head softball coach Tori Tyson will be among the incredible speakers. The announcement came Monday.
Entering their third year, the clinics feature 40 elite softball minds, who will share their knowledge, drills and secrets to success this winter.
"[This is] such an opportunity to grow the game, but most importantly, learn it," Tyson, who is entering her second year at the helm, said. "I'm humbled and excited to share my little piece, especially being surrounded by some future Hall of Fame coaches. I always jump at the opportunity to grow the game and represent Howard [University] and HBCUs on these stages."
Tyson will take her knowledge of the game to Kansas City, Mo., where she will join Larissa Anderson (Missouri), Courtney Deifel (Arkansas), Caryl Drohan (Northwestern) and Sam Marder (Texas Tech).
Clinics will be offered in seven cities- Chicago, Ill. (2), Louisville, Ky., Portland, Ore., Charlotte, N.C., Nashville, Tenn., Minneapolis, Minn. and Kansas City - with five speakers at each site. Over two days, participants will gain knowledge from world-class speakers and be able to mingle with exhibitors, who will be showcasing some of the newest innovations in the softball world.
The 2019-20 lineup features seven NFCA Hall of Famers, 11 national champions, four coaches with over 1,000 career wins, three Olympic gold medalists and the two winningest coaches in the NCAA (Carol Hutchins, Michigan) and NCAA Division I (Mike Candrea, Arizona), respectively.
"Providing relevant, cutting-edge fastpitch education is one of the NFCA's main pillars," NFCA Executive Director Carol Bruggeman said. "The NFCA is thrilled to provide eight coaches clinics nationwide to help our coaches on their quest for excellence."
In only her first season, Tyson revitalized the Bison with several victories throughout the year. Howard reached the postseason for the first time since 2015 while grabbing the Bison's first tourney win in eight seasons (2011). Additionally, the Bison's 19 victories are the most since 2012.
