Nine Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) cross country squads will be in action this weekend, marking the busiest slate of the season to this point.
On Friday, North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central will both participate in the Adidas XC Challenge hosted by N.C. State in what will be their first meet since the Elon Opener. Morgan State, Howard, Coppin State and Delaware State will all run in the Eastern Shore Invitational hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday.
Bethune-Cookman will also compete Saturday morning, running in the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic.
South Carolina State will open its 2019 campaign on Saturday, running in the Eagles Cross Country Challenge hosted by Georgia Southern.
Maryland Eastern Shore finished third on both the men’s and women’s races at the William & Mary Invitational this past weekend. In other action, two-time MEAC individual cross country champion Martha Bissah paced the Norfolk State women with a 10th-place finish at the Cavalier Classic, hosted by the University of Virginia.
Bissah’s 26:20.06 is the MEAC’s fastest women’s 5K time so far in 2019.
On the men’s side, the Spartans’ Meshack Kipchirchir posted the MEAC’s second-fastest 8K time in the Cavalier Classic, turning in a 25:27.50.
Kipchrichir and Bissah were named MEAC Men’s and Women’s Runners of the Week.
Carlin Berryhill, the 2018 MEAC men’s cross country individual champion, led the way for Bethune-Cookman with a top-20 finish at the Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida this past Saturday. Florida A&M also ran in that meet.
