NORFOLK, Va., Sept. 16, 2019—
Maryland Eastern Shore sophomore Mauri Carver was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Delaware State’s Ryanne Burnett was named Rookie of the Week, while
Coppin State senior Christa Johnson and
North Carolina A&T State sophomore Shaylynn Hall shared Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and
North Carolina A&T State junior Edie Brewer was named Setter of the Week.
Carver (6-3, So., MB, Elizabeth City, N.C.) was a force, both offensively and at the net, for Maryland Eastern Shore this past weekend in the Henson’s Hawk Classic. She hit .581 for the weekend, averaging 2.2 kills and 1.0 blocks per set. She opened with six kills and a career-high seven total blocks in a four-set win over Rider, before hitting a weekend-best .667 with eight kills and six total blocks against Hampton. She closed the weekend with a career-high 12 kills and five blocks, hitting .647 against Robert Morris.
Burnett (5-9, Fr., OH, Kane’ohe, Hawaii) averaged nearly three kills and two digs per set for the Hornets as they went 2-2 this past week – including a 2-1 mark in the Lafayette Classic. She recorded a double-double (17 kills, 11 digs) against Siena, hitting a week-best .341 in that match – which came after a 16-kill effort to open the week against Saint Peter’s. For the week, Burnett hit .226 – and she closed out the week with nine kills, six digs and two service aces against Merrimack.
Johnson (5-9, Sr., MB, Crestview, Fla.) averaged 1.1 blocks per set in the Friar Classic hosted by Providence College over the weekend. She recorded four total blocks each in matches against Brown and Providence, and she added three more blocks in a straight-set win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
Hall (6-2, So., MB, Gardner, N.C.) averaged 1.1 blocks per set in helping the Aggies to a 2-2 week – including an averaged of 1.3 blocks per set in the Wofford Invitational. After opening the tournament with four total blocks against host Wofford, she added three more against Gardner-Webb – before blocking notching six blocks in a straight-set win over Alabama A&M.
Brewer (6-0, Jr., S, West Chester, Ohio) was an all-around force for the Aggies as they went 2-2 this past week – including a 2-1 mark in the Wofford Invitational over the weekend. Brewer averaged 6.7 assists, 3.0 digs and 2.5 kills per set, while hitting .272 in four matches – and she recorded her second career triple-double (and the fourth in program history) with 34 assists, 14 digs and 11 kills against Gardner-Webb. She also recorded a double-double (18 assists, 16 digs) against Wofford, and she added 27 assists against Alabama A&M.

Miajavon Coleman (CSU) had 21 kills and 13 digs against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Ashley Roman (CSU) racked up 12 digs each against Brown and Fairleigh Dickinson.
Sydney Armbrister (DSU) hit .383 in four matches for the Hornets, totaling 30 kills and seven total blocks.
Jasmal Cruz (DSU) had 30 digs against Saint Peter’s.
Jelena Dukic (DSU) recorded a double-double (53 assists, 18 digs) against Saint Peter’s, and had 46 assists against Siena.
Kayla Diaz (HOW) racked up 29 assists against Loyola (Md.).
Jurnee Tipton (HOW) recorded double-doubles against Villanova (10 klls, 10 digs) and No. 20 USC (10 kills, 12 digs).
Fola Wilson (HOW) recorded 24 digs against No. 20 USC.
Courteney Pitt (NCAT) had 25 kills against Gardner-Webb and 18 against Alabama A&M.
Addy Warfield (NCAT) nearly recorded a double-double against Charleston Southern with 11 assists and nine digs.
Christine Alcox (NCCU) had 15 kills against Presbyterian.
Celene Morris (NCCU) recorded a double-double (40 assists, 12 digs) against North Dakota.
Myleah Carter (NSU) had 19 digs against USC Upstate and 16 against East Carolina.
Anna Rupertova (NSU) racked up 12 kills against East Carolina.
Ivana Blazevic (UMES) averaged 8.5 assists per set in the Henson’s Hawk Classic.
Stella Johnson (UMES) had 24 digs against Rider and 20 against Hampton.
