MEAC Volleyball: Morgan State Separates From the Pack into Week 3

MEAC Weekly Volleyball Notes | 2019 MEAC Volleyball Statistics

Two weeks are in the books in the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball season, and Morgan State has established itself as the league's best team so far -- boasting a 5-2 records after going 3-1 this past week.

The Lady Bears opened last week with a straight-set win over Siena at home -- before hitting the road for the first time this season this past weekend in the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Fall Classic. Morgan State defeated host FDU and NJIT before falling to Quinnipiac in the championship match.

Other winners this past week include Bethune-Cookman -- which twice defeated Texas Southern for its first two wins of the season -- and four-time defending MEAC champion Howard, which defeated Canisius in a tournament hosted by St. John's this past weekend.

Morgan State's Zoe McBride and Bethune-Cookman's Jordan Jefferson were named MEAC Co-Players of the Week, with McBride earning the conference's weekly honor for the second straight week. Delaware State's Ryanne Burnett was named Rookie of the Week, while the Lady Bears' Roi Wallace repeated as Setter of the Week and her teammate Sara Brown earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors.

Through the season's first two weeks, McBride ranks fourth in all of Div. I in total kills (121), sixth in total points (131.0), 21st in kills per set (4.84) and 30th in points per set (5.24). Wallace is 11th in the nation in total assists (258) and Howard's Ana Williams leads the nation in service aces per set (1.33) and is second in total aces with 24.

Ivana Blazevic and Stella Johnson, both from Maryland Eastern Shore, are third and fifth nationally in total aces with 18 and 16, respectively.
