No. 19 North Carolina A&T State 24, No. 21 Elon 21
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The biggest scare for North Carolina A&T State head football coach Sam Washington was not junior Noel Ruiz’s game-winning 52-yard field goal as time expired that downed No. 21 Elon 24-21 Saturday night at BB&T Stadium.
Despite Ruiz missing two prior field goals in the game, Washington has witnessed Ruiz hit 50 yarders plenty of times in practice. The scariest part for Washington was the play that happened before the field goal attempt. The 19th-ranked Aggies nearly ran the clock out on the previous play, which would have sent the game into overtime.
Instead, a play that started with nine seconds remaining in the game and included graduate quarterback Kylil Carter scrambling around the field before tossing a pass downfield that Korey Banks caught out of bounds, left one second on the clock.

"This was a big win for our program, beating a team like Wofford," head coach Buddy Pough said. "Our defense played well, and it gave us a chance throughout the game."

NORFOLK, Va. -- Lala Davis scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 3:21 remaining in the game to lift Old Dominion to a come-from-behind 24-21 win over Norfolk State in the season opener for both teams Saturday night at S.B. Ballard Stadium.
The Spartans rallied from a 14-0 first-quarter deficit, scoring twice in the fourth quarter to ultimately pull ahead of the Monarchs 21-17 on a 9-yard touchdown run by quarterback Juwan Carter with 5:56 remaining. ODU had the answer, though, driving 72 yards in 10 plays to retake the lead on Davis' short scoring run.
The Spartans got the ball back and picked up one first down. But on the sixth play of their drive, Carter's pass down the seam was intercepted by ODU defensive back Lance Boykin, and the Monarchs ran out the clock to preserve the win in the fourth all-time meeting between Norfolk's two college football programs.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Head coach Ron Prince and Howard kicked off the 2019 season with a tough loss, 79-0, against Beltway foe Maryland at Capital One Field on Saturday in front of 32,761 fans.
Maryland controlled the tempo in all three phases. Offensively, the Terps racked up 628 total yards while, defensively, recording eight sacks. UMD's special teams capitalize on two early punting miscues and scored on a 40-yard punt return for a touchdown.
"I thought our kids battled and played hard today," Prince said after the game. "We got outcoached. We can do a better job as coaches. We were soundly beaten in all phases."
