Howard’s Newton Named to 2019 CFPA FCS National POY Watch List

CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 13, 2019 – The College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) unveiled its 40-member watch list for the 2019 CFPA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Player of the Year Trophy where Howard University junior quarterback Caylin Newton was among the recipients.
 
A year ago, the reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Year ended his sophomore campaign ranking among the nation's leaders in several categories, including passing yards per completion (1st/16.85) and total offense (7th/313.3). He completed his second season as the MEAC's top passer with 2,629 yards and 22 touchdowns in 10 games.
 
The junior signalcaller continues to rack up preseason accolades, including 2019 STATS FCS Preseason All-America honors. Recently, the Atlanta, Ga., native was named to the STATS FCS Walter Payton Award Preseason Watch List.
 
The 2019 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy is a 22-inch K-9 optic crystal tower with eight-inch crystal football on top. All FCS players are eligible for the award. The award winner will be announced January 15, 2020.
