MAIA, Portugal – Former Coppin State University men's basketball player Lamar Morgan has signed a contract to play for Maia Basket Clube, a professional team that plays in the LPB, the top league in Portugal, during the 2019-20 season.
A swingman out of Willingboro, N.J., Morgan was a two-year standout for the Eagles after transferring in from Mineral Area College. Morgan was a Third Team All-MEAC selection as a junior while leading Coppin with 12.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
In conference action that year, Morgan increased his scoring output to nearly 16 points per game.
Morgan had his breakout performance on December 9, 2017, when he erupted for 30 points while making 7-of-11 3-pointers at Connecticut. He had another 30 points with eight three's later that season against Hampton.
As a senior, Morgan put up 11.3 points with 4.2 rebounds and went off for a career-high 35 points with another eight triples at North Carolina A&T on January 21, 2019. His 35 points were the most by an Eagle in nearly 20 years and earned his MEAC Player of the Week honors.
One of the top 3-point shooters in the nation, Morgan drained 88 3-pointers as a junior, which is the fourth-most in Coppin single-season history. He followed that up with another 82 trifectas as a senior to account for 170 3-pointers in his Coppin career, good for eighth in the history of the program.
Playing in just 64 games for the Navy & Gold, Morgan's 2.6 three's per game is a CSU record.
