Garvin to Serve As Speaker At HBCU Coaches Retreat

ORANGEBURG, S.C.—South Carolina State head men's basketball coach Murray Garvin is a guest speaker at the Annual Athletes In Action (AIA) HBCU Basketball Coaches Retreat June 2-4 in Xenia, Ohio.

"It is truly an honor to be among such great coaches and share some of the successes and failures of coaching here at South Carolina State," Garvin said. "I like to take advantage of opportunities to grow as a coach and this retreat will give me the chance to do just that."

The HBCU Coaches Retreat was designed five years ago for basketball coaches at HBCUs from around the country to come together and discuss leadership principles and strategies so that they can assist each other in being successful coaches and program builders at their respective institutions.

During the retreat, coaches engage in small-group settings, listen to motivational speakers from a variety of business sectors, attend breakout sessions on the X & O's of the game of basketball, discuss best practices of running a college basketball program, and learn from current and former coaches serving at HBCUs from around the nation.

CBS College Basketball Analyst Clark Kellogg, NBA Hall of Famer Cazzie Russell, Marathon Oil Executive Thom Snead, along with other distinguished coaches, will be on hand to provide their perspectives on personal and professional growth, leadership development, and spiritual encouragement.
