Bethune-Cookman University Senior Associate Athletic Director Robert "Tony" O'Neal has been named Chairman of the NCAA Bowling Committee for the 2019-20 season that will include the National Championship tournament being held in his hometown of Detroit, Mich.
O'Neal served as a National Committee Co-Chair in 2017-18 and served as site representative for tournament first-round playoffs in Harrogate, Tenn., Houston, Texas and Cleveland, Ohio.
This will be his fifth year on the committee.
"To be the National Chair when the Championship is in my hometown is indeed special," O'Neal said. "I'm excited and eager to begin my duties and continue to help the sport grow and establish itself."
O'Neal is in his 16th year with the Bethune-Cookman Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, serving as Senior Associate Athletic Director of Facilities & Strategic Initiatives since 2015. After O'Neal launched the Lady Wildcat bowling program in 2002, B-CU won the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship in 2005 and made appearances in the NCAA Bowling National Championships in 2005 and 2006.
B-CU finished fourth at Nationals in 2005.
