ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Carrington Robinson's first collegiate RBI came with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and lifted Bethune-Cookman to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championship game with a 5-4 victory over Florida A&M Friday at Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
The Wildcats (25-28) will play either Florida A&M, Howard or North Carolina Central at 12 p.m. on Saturday. If B-CU loses that game, the "if necessary" game will take place around 3 p.m.
Robinson, whose seventh-inning RBI was disallowed after umpires ruled she stepped out of the batter's box, scored Sasha Killings, who had led off with a walk and advanced to second on Cheyenne Smith's fielder's choice.
In the fifth, Killings delivered a bases-loaded double to center and scored on Kaiya Epps-Lee's grounder to give B-CU a 4-1 lead.
Florida A&M closed to 4-3 on Kimiya Watkins's two-run homer in the sixth and tied the game on an error in the seventh.
Smith finished 3-4, while Killings and Kayla Traylor each had two hits. Destiny Enriquez came off the bench and got the victory, giving up just that one unearned run and three hits while striking out two.
Bethune-Cookman will be playing for its 10th MEAC championship overall and seventh under head coach Laura Watten as it tries to defend its title.
