MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., April 8, 2019 – Bethune-Cookman’s Cheyenne Smith was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Morgan State’s Stephanie Rundlett was selected as Pitcher of the Week and Coppin State’s Soraya Valdez-Frick was selected as Rookie of the Week.
 
Smith (OF, Sr., Lake Elsinore, Calif.) went 8-for-12 this past week for a .667 batting average. Smith also recorded four stolen bases, while scoring eight runs and driving in a pair. In the final game against South Carolina State, Smith was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs and three stolen bases.
 
Rundlett (P, Jr., York, Maine) finished the week with a 1.31 ERA, three wins and a save for the Bears. Rundlett appeared in four games with two starts, facing 83 batters and allowing just four runs, walking five and collecting 10 strikeouts. In a complete game shutout over Delaware State, Rundlett allowed only four hits while striking out three batters.
 
Valdez-Frick (SS, r-Fr., San Mateo, Calif.) finished the week with a .308 batting average by going 4-for-13 at the plate. Valdez-Frick scored two runs, while also recording four RBIs with a double and a home run. She had a .615 slugging percentage and in the series finale against Maryland Eastern Shore, she went 2-for-2 from the plate and drove in two runs while also scoring a run.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS 
Alexis Bermudez (B-CU) finished the week with a 2.54 ERA in 22 innings pitched with three wins. Bermudez allowed just nine runs, while also accounting for 24 strikeouts in 91 batters faced.
 
Quianah Mitchell (B-CU) finished the week with a .272 batting average, going 3-for-11 at the plate. Mitchell scored eight runs and stole four bases.
 
Madison Didion (CSU) appeared in three games and finished the week with a 5.69 ERA, striking out 15 batters.
 
Megan Narvaez (CSU) went 7-for-17 at the plate last week and scored four runs and accounted for three RBIs. She hit three doubles and had a stolen base.
 
Brandice Boatwright (FAMU) finished the week with a 4.20 ERA and allowed just six runs in 10 innings of work. Finished the week with six strikeouts and was 3-for-9 from the plate with a .333 batting average.
 
Kyaira Brown (FAMU) won two games over the weekend with two complete games. Brown didn’t allow a run, striking out 14 batters and giving up just one walk.
 
Jamesia Stoudemire (FAMU) had a .333 batting average in five games last week with a double, home run and five RBIs. In game two against Savannah State, she went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
 
Kalita Dennis (HOW) went 3-for-3 with three runs and a RBI. Recorded a triple and drew a walk.
 
Damali Young (MSU) finished the weekend with a .478 batting average with 11 hits. Young scored 12 runs and drove in three on her way to becoming the all-time hits leader at Morgan State. She was also 6-for-6 in stolen bases.
