MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., April 30, 2019 – Bethune-Cookman’s Kayla Traylor was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. Delaware State’s Brianna Baker was selected as Pitcher of the Week and Coppin State’s Brissa Alvarado was selected as Rookie of the Week.
 
Traylor (IF/U, So., Riverside, Calif.) went 7-for-10 at the plate for a .700 batting average and scored three runs while also driving in three runs. In the game two win over Florida A&M, Traylor when 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run for the Wildcats while driving in a pair.
 
Baker (P, So., Waldorf, Md.) threw 15 scoreless innings over the course of three games with a 0.00 ERA. Baker allowed just nine combined hits while holder opponents to a .176 batting average.
 
Alvarado (P/3B, Fr., Rialto, Calif.) closed out the week with a .667 batting average by going 8-for-12 at the plate with two RBIs and a run scored. Alvarado also had a .927 slugging percentage, and in the second game against St. Peter’s, she went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBIs.
 
Other Top Performers
Kaira Cabato (B-CU) went 4-for-9 at the plate for a .444 batting average, scoring three runs while also accounting for three RBIs.
 
Destiny Enriquez (B-CU) allowed just four runs in 8.2 innings in the circle.
 
Jaelyn Baker (DSU) finished the week with a .600 batting average and seven RBIs. She had a home run, two doubles, a triple and scored five runs in three games.
 
Seriah Brokenborough (FAMU) finished the weekend with a .286 in three games against B-CU. She had two hits, five RBIs and a grand slam in Sunday’s win over the Wildcats.
 
Alexis Day (FAMU) hit .375 over the weekend with a double and three RBIs.
 
Xzarria Simmons (HOW) went 9-for-18 this past week with three RBIs and three runs scored. Finished with .556 slugging percentage and .500 batting average.
 
Mackenzi Steele (HOW) had a seven-inning shutout win against Coppin State and picked up a win against Maryland Eastern Shore. Steele struck out nine batters in a win against Norfolk State and picked up a save.
 
Kamryn Tillman (HOW) accounted for three runs and five RBIs for the Bison. In Howard’s second game against Norfolk State, Tillman was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. She also hit a home run in that game.
 
Haylee Bobos (MSU) finished the week with a .571 batting average going 8-for-14 at the plate and scoring two runs while also driving in six runs -- including the game-winning two-run home run against Coppin State.
 
Stephanie Rundlett (MSU) started three games and went 3-0 with two compete-game shutout wins with 10 strikeouts. In the win of Mount St. Mary’s, she didn’t allow a run on just four hits and had five strikeouts.              
 
Hunter Halford (NSU) pitched a complete game shutout and picked up the win in game three against Howard. Halford recorded six strikeouts in 10 innings pitched.  
 
Tuli Iosefa (NSU) went 4-for-9 over the weekend and scored a run while also driving a run in on a solo home run – which came in the bottom of 7th against Howard to clinch the division for the Spartans.
 
Lily Potter (NSU) finished with a .444 batting average by going 4-for-9 from the plate. She had an RBI and a .444 slugging percentage.
 
Faith Dickerson (SSU) threw four complete games, holding opponents to a .211 batting average. She recorded 27 strikeouts in 24 innings pitched.
 
Payton Mitchell (SSU) went 2-for-6 at the plate with a .333 batting average. Mitchell accounted for eight runs by scoring three runs and driving in five more for the Tigers. She also hit two home runs over the weekend. 
 
Stacie Smith (SSU) went 4-for-7 and scored seven runs and drove in four runs for the Tigers in wins over South Carolina State. Finished with a .733 on-base percentage, .571 batting average and .724 slugging percentage.
