NORFOLK, Va., April 3, 2019—
North Carolina A&T State freshman Vasil Ivanov was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina Central freshman Thanos Spyropoulos was named Rookie of the Week.
Ivanov (Fr., Kardzhali, Bulgaria) went a perfect 4-0 in this past week, winning both singles and both doubles matches for the Aggies. He opened the week on Monday, March 25, with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win over UC Riverside’s Nabil Abdallah in the No. 2 slot, and he paired with Jorge Goenaga for the 7-6 (7-5) doubles win to help the Aggies claim the doubles point. Then, against North Carolina Central, he defeated Amit Baran 6-4, 6-1 and paired with Goenaga for a 6-4 doubles victory.
Spyropoulos (Fr., Athens, Greece) won both singles matches and both doubles matches this past week, starting on Wednesday, March 27, with a 6-2, 6-2 win over UC Riverside’s Vignesh Subramanyan and a 7-5 doubles win alongside Christos Dagklis. Against North Carolina A&T State, he defeated Hayden Faulkenbury 6-0, 6-1 before pairing again with Dagklis for a 7-6 (7-5) doubles win over Jordan Lawrence and Nolan Martino.

Roger Lyn (HOW) defeated Norfolk State’s Vini Da Silva 7-6, 6-1.
Gabriel Cucalon (NCCU) defeated UC Riverside’s Kyle McCann (6-1, 6-3) and North Carolina A&T State’s Nicolas Arduh (6-3, 6-3).
Vini Da Silva (NSU) notched singles wins this past week against UC Riverside and James Madison.
