NORFOLK, Va., April 17, 2019 – Florida A&M senior Tyra Bowers was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Bethune-Cookman sophomore Alexis Bermudez was selected as Pitcher of the Week and
Florida A&M’s Seriah Brokenborough was selected as Rookie of the Week.
Bowers (5-7, Sr., OF, Eustis, Fla.) finished this past week with a .667 batting average after going 10-for-15 at the plate. She accounted for 16 runs in four games, scoring eight and driving in eight more. Bowers had three doubles and three stolen bases on the week, and in the Lady Rattlers’ win Monday over North Carolina A&T State, she was 4-for-5 with a double, three RBIs, three stolen bases and three runs scored.
Brokenborough (5-6, Fr., INF, Eustis, Fla.) went 4-for-10 (.400) at the plate in four starts this past week, driving in five runs and scoring once. She went 3-for-4 on Monday against North Carolina A&T State, including a three-run double in helping the Lady Rattlers complete the three-game sweep of the Aggies.
Bermudez (5-6, So., P, Santa Fe Springs, Calif.) threw three complete games this past week, including two shutouts and her first career no-hitter on Tuesday against North Carolina Central – Bethune-Cookman’s first since 2013 (Shanel Tolbert against South Carolina State). Opponents hit just .121 against her for the week.

Kaira Cabato (B-CU) had a three-run double in the series finale against NCCU.
Kayla Traylor (B-CU) was 3-for-7 at the plate and scored three runs, finishing the week with a .429 batting average, .667 on-base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage.
Madison Didion (CSU) struck out 24 in 26 total innings pitched, including nine in a win over Mount St. Mary’s on Tuesday.
Megan Narvaez (CSU) 7-for-18 at the plate (.389) with a double in six games.
Jasmine Melgoza (DSU) finished the week with a .467 batting average, scoring three runs and recording an RBI.
Kyaira Brown (FAMU) was 2-0 for the week with a 2.15 ERA. In 13.0 innings of work, she struck out 10 in two complete games, including seven in Monday’s series finale against North Carolina A&T State.
Jacqueline Jones (HOW) 6-for-14 (.429) at the plate in five games, driving in one and scoring three times.
Haylee Bobos (MSU) hit .583 (7-for-12) with seven RBIs and two runs scored, both on home runs. She had at least two hits in each game against Howard, a series in which Morgan State went 2-1.
Stephanie Rundlett (MSU) went 2-1 in the circle with a 3.11 ERA. She struck out 10 in the series, including five in Friday’s first game.
Kylee Lopez (NSU) was 7-for-19 at the plate this past week for a .368 batting average. She scored two runs and drove in three runs with a home run.
Denisha Megginson (NSU) went 5-for-11 (.455) at the plate in five games, helping NSU go 4-1. She drove in both runs with a double in a 2-1 win over Coppin State on Friday.
Skylar Swain (NSU) picked up two wins this past week, including a complete game against Hampton in which she struck out four and gave up just one run.
