Maryland E. Shore Eliminated from NCAAs by Stephen F. Austin

WICKLIFFE, Ohio, April 12, 2019--Maryland Eastern Shore's run through the 2019 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship came to an end Friday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to Stephen F. Austin.

SFA advanced to Saturday's championship match. The Hawks will turn their attention to the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championships, April 17-20.

Stephen F. Austin took the early lead by winning the traditional team play round 974-852. Freshman Chloe Skurzynski, the MEAC Bowling Championship's Outstanding Performer, led the Hawks with a 186.

SFA then appeared to be in control of the Baker pinfall round, sitting on a 442-411 lead after the first two games. But Maryland Eastern Shore exploded in the third game, to the tune of 224-170, to take a 635-612 lead. From there, the Hawks won the final two games to take the round 1,001-938 and tie the match at 1-1.

But Stephen F. Austin responded in best-of-seven Baker play, taking immediate command by winning the first game 237-190. That momentum carried through the next three games, and the Hawks found themselves swept out of the round 4-0 as SFA advanced to Saturday.
