WICKLIFFE, Ohio, April 11, 2019 -- Maryland Eastern Shore rebounded on Thursday afternoon to defeat Sam Houston State 2-0 in Mega Match format in the loser's bracket of the 2019 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Bowling Championship.
The Hawks will next face Sacred Heart on Friday at 9 a.m. The match will be streamed live on

The match opened with traditional team play, which the Hawks took 987-897 -- thanks in large part to the 237 that MEAC Bowler of the Year Cayla Hicks turned in. Danielle August also broke the 200-pin mark with a 202.
Sam Houston State proved tough in the Baker total pinfall round, jumping out to a 203-169 lead after the first of five games. But Maryland Eastern Shore won the second and fourth games, while holding close in the third, to hold a one-pin lead heading into the fifth game.
The Hawks took that game 175-168 -- thanks to two strikes in the 19th frame from Hicks -- to win the round 902-894 and take the match.
