MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Tennis Honors

NORFOLK, Va., April 10, 2019Morgan State junior Nihit Rawal was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Victor Castro was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Rawal (Chandigarh, India) went 3-0 in singles play this past week, recording wins over Mount St. Mary’s, Howard and Norfolk State – extending his singles winning streak to five matches. After dispatching of Parth Sharma of Mount St. Mary’s 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 2 slot, Rawal did the same to Howard’s Cole Gittens (6-4, 6-3) and Norfolk State’s Agustin Carrizo (6-4, 6-2). He also had doubles victories against Mount St. Mary’s and Norfolk State.
 
Castro (Marillia, Brazil) was key in Bethune-Cookman’s 5-2 win over rival Florida A&M this past Thursday, winning a marathon singles match in the No. 2 position by defeating the Rattlers’ Rodney Sturgis 6-5, 3-7, 1-0 (10-7).
 
Other Top Performers
Juan Navarro (B-CU) defeated Florida A&M’s Dimitri Bird in No. 5 singles and paired with Jose Plazas for a doubles victory.
