MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., April 1, 2019 – North Carolina Central’s Dalika Wallace was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Teammate Kiara Hurley was selected as Pitcher of the Week, and Howard’s Kalita Dennis was selected as Rookie of the Week.
 
Wallace (3B, Jr., Newport News, Va.) closed out the week with a .883 batting average by going 5-for-6 at the plate. Wallace also had a 1.667 slugging percentage and a .909 on-base percentage in a three-game series against South Carolina State. She started the series with a grand slam and six RBIs in a 16-1 win over the Bulldogs, then she added five more RBIs on Saturday – and she also had a triple and reached base on 10 of her 11 plate appearances.
 
Hurley (P, So., Maumee, Ohio) threw two complete games, including a shutout on Saturday against South Carolina State. She gave up just one earned run over 12.0 innings pitched, holding her opponents to a .125 batting average and combining for 14 strikeouts.
 
Dennis (1B, Fr., Elk Grove, Calif.) went 6-for-9 at the plate (.667) with five RBIs, five runs scored and two home runs in a three-game series against Delaware State this past weekend.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS 
Jonah Cunnigan (DSU) went 6-for-9 at the plate and finished the weekend with a .667 batting average. Cunnigan also scored two runs and recorded a triple in the series against Howard.
 
Kyaira Brown (FAMU) tossed a complete game against Jacksonville, giving up nine hits and three runs.
 
Jamesia Stoudemire (FAMU) went 2-for-3 against Jacksonville with a run scored and an RBI.
 
Kaycee Watkins (FAMU) was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored against Jacksonville.
 
Haylee Bobos (MSU) went 3-for-9 with a .333 batting average over the weekend, hitting two home runs to go along with four RBIs and three walks.
 
Eternal Fuller (NCAT) was a combined 4-for-11 at the plate with three runs scored against Savannah State.
 
Zadaisha Waddell (NCAT) went 4-for-8 (.500) at the plate with three RBIs and a run scored against Savannah State, while also going 1-0 in the circle with nine strikeouts in 11 innings pitched.
 
Shelby DeSchamps (NSU) went 7-for-10 at the plate for a .700 batting average, scoring five runs while driving in four runs of her own and stealing five bases.
 
Lily Potter (NSU) was 3-for-5 at the plate with four RBIs, three doubles and two runs scored against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Skylar Swain (NSU) struck out five in five innings of work in picking up the win against Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday.
