DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Cletrell Pope set the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference single-season double-double record with his 21st in a 17-point, 13-rebound effort. However, Bethune-Cookman fell to Florida A&M, 64-56, at Historic Moore Gymnasium.
 
The Wildcats (14-16, 9-7) begin next week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament as the five seed against Howard University on Thursday, Mar. 14, at 8 p.m.
 
The Wildcats had multiple opportunities to gain the lead in the second half, but a 12-0 run by the visitors kept BCU away. Isaiah Martin dunked with 8:20 remaining and capped off the run with a lay-in at 2:26.
 
BCU cut the deficit to five on a Dondre Duffus three with 18 seconds remaining, but Kamron Reaves sank three free throws to close the game.

Savannah State 90, South Carolina State 87
 
ORANGEBURG, SC – Junior guard Jahmari Etienne tossed in a career-high 26 points connecting 7-of-8 from behind the arc, but it wasn't enough as South Carolina State fell short, 90-87, to visiting Savannah State in the regular season finale at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center Thursday (March. 7th).
 
Junior forward Ozante Fields finished with 19 points and six rebounds, while teammates Lavar Harewood added 12 and Ian Kinard 10 in the loss.
 
SSU was led by Jaquan Dotson with a team-high 25 points and Romani Hansen 17. Tyrel Harper grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, nine points and six assist in the win.
 
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs dominated in bench points 49-28, while shooting 82.8% (24-of-29) from the charity stripe and 50% (27-of-53) from the field.

North Carolina A&T State 74, North Carolina Central 52
 
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central played a tight first half with North Carolina A&T, but three pointers from the Aggies in the second half provided separation as the home squad came away with a 74-52 win at the Corbett Center on Thursday, March 7.
 
NCCU (15-15, 10-6 MEAC) missed their first seven shots from the floor but were eventually able to hit the mark and get going after Zacarry Douglas (Landover, Md.) made the Eagles’ first field goal on a three-pointer after six minutes of play.
 
Douglas fired the Eagles ahead with his second triple of the game as the Eagles went on an 8-0 run to take a 20-19 lead, but NCAT (18-12, 13-3 MEAC) quickly regained the lead on a layup to go back up 21-20.  Both teams went back and forth down the tail end of the first period, but the Aggies were able to close the first 20 minutes with a four-point lead, 31-21.

Howard 98, Norfolk State 95
 
NORFOLK, Va. – R.J. Cole sank a 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds left to send Howard to a 98-95 win over the Norfolk State men’s basketball team in the regular season finale on Thursday night at Joseph Echols Hall.
 
Cole scored 36 points on the night and finished with seven 3-pointers, including the last that came from the left wing and more than 30 feet out. Charles Williams also finished with 27 for the Bison in a game that featured 21 lead changes. They outscored NSU 62-55 in the second half.
 
The Spartans had five players in double figures, including two with 20. Sophomore Mastadi Pitt tallied his first career double-double with 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting with a career-high 10 assists. Junior Nic Thomas also had 20 points with six rebounds, shooting 6-of-12 overall, including 5-of-8 from deep.

Coppin State 83, Morgan State 69
 
BALTIMORE – Chad Andrews-Fulton scored 24 points and pulled down 18 rebounds, both career-highs, to lead the Coppin State men’s basketball team to an 83-69 victory at archrival Morgan State on Thursday night at Hill field House.  It is the first time since the 2014-15 season that the Eagles swept the season series with their crosstown rival.
