NORFOLK, Va., March 27, 2019Morgan State sophomore Oguzhan Ceylan was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central freshman Christos Dagklis was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Ceylan (So., Izmir, Turkey) was 3-0 in singles play and 2-1 in doubles action this past week, and he is currently riding a six-match winning streak in singles. Ceylan opened the week with a 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 win over North Carolina Central’s Thanos Spyropoulos, before defeating Hayden Faulkenbury of North Carolina A&T State 6-1, 6-2 and pairing with Nihit Rawal for a 6-0 doubles win. Against Delaware, Ceylan helped clinch the doubles point before turning in a 6-4, 6-3 singles win over Blaise Casselbury.
 
Dagklis (Fr., Larissa, Greece) was 2-1 in singles play this past week, despite opening with a loss to Morgan State’s Nihit Rawal. His two wins came in conference play, helping the Eagles jump out to a 2-0 start in league play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Florida A&M’s Rodney Sturgis and a 6-4, 6-3 win over Bethune-Cookman’s Phillip Lynch. He also paired with Thanos Spyropoulos for a 6-0 doubles victory in the Bethune-Cookman match.
 
Other Top Performers
Victor Bravo (B-CU) defeated North Carolina A&T State’s Jorge Goenaga 6-1, 6-0, while also recording a pair of doubles victories.
 
Nicolas Arduh (NCAT) defeated Luis Espinoza of Florida A&M 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
 
Gabriel Cucalon (NCCU) recorded singles victories against Morgan State, Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman.
