NORFOLK, Va., March 25, 2019 – Florida A&M’s Alexis Day was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. North Carolina A&T State’s Zadaisha Waddell was selected as Pitcher of the Week and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Rachel Gingrich was selected as Rookie of the Week.
 
Day (OF, Sr., Ocala, Fla.) finished the week with a .500 batting average, going 3-for-6 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs. In the team’s final game against North Carolina Central, Day went 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs.
 
Waddell (P, Sr., Troy, N.C.) threw a no-hitter in the Aggies’ Sunday win over South Carolina State. Day finished the week with a 1.91 ERA, picking up two wins and allowing just seven runs in three appearances in the circle. She also held opponents to a .183 batting average.
 
Gingrich (U/P, Fr., Landisburg, Pa.) finished the weekend with a .357 batting average. Gindrich had five hits and drew a team-high six walks. She was 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts for the week and had a .926 fielding percentage.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS 
Brissa Alvarado (CSU) allowed just four runs over 10.0 innings pitched while appearing in three games. She also went 2-for-7 at the plate with a double.
 
Madison Didion (CSU) earned a win in the series opener at Delaware State, allowing just two runs on five hits.
 
Kylie Flagler (CSU) had three hits and finished the week with a batting average of .375 while scoring two runs.
 
Brancice Boatwright (FAMU) picked up two wins in the series against North Carolina Central, allowing just three runs, one earned, with five strikeouts over the weekend.
 
Kimaya Watkins (FAMU) finished the week with a .500 going 3-for-6 with two runs scored and one RBI in the NCCU series
 
Kalita Dennis (HOW) was 4-for-9 at the plate over the weekend with two doubles against Maryland Eastern Shore, to go along with four RBIs and two home runs.
 
Giselle Alvarez (MSU) went 6-for-9 and finished the week with a .667 batting average with two runs, one RBI and a triple. She also was 2-for-2 on stolen bases attempts. 
 
Maya Figueroa (NCAT) went 5-for-11 at the plate with a .455 batting average, scoring one run with two RBIs, while having a .929 fielding percentage.
 
Hunter Halford (NSU) threw shutouts against Radford and Morgan State and had 15 straight shutout innings this week along with a save in game one on Sunday against Morgan State.
 
Stephanie Huff (UMES) finished the week with a .474 batting average, recording team highs of nine hits, three doubles and seven RBIs.
 
Kylee Lopez (NSU) was 5-for-14 from the plate, scoring a total of five runs in four games, including one home run.
 
Gabby Vaughn (NSU) went 6-of-18 at the plate, scoring one run while securing two RBIs on the weekend.
