Norfolk State graduate student Naz Karagoz was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina Central’s Hannah Gaines was named Rookie of the Week.
Karagoz (Gr., Istanbul, Turkey) defeated South Carolina State’s Andjela Mihajilovic 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 position, while also recording a 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over Delaware’s Viva Laas in the No. 1 spot. In addition, Karagoz recorded doubles victories against Longwood (7-5) and Delaware (6-1), both alongside Zoe Fraser in the No. 1 position.
Gaines (Fr., Kernersville, N.C.) went a combined 1-1 in singles play this past week, while also going a perfect 2-0 in doubles action. She handled Renata Ruiz of North Carolina A&T State 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot, and she also paired with Frida Cnossen in the No. 1 doubles position to take a 7-5 decision over Ramirez and Angelica Martinez. Gaines and Cnossen also won their doubles match against Charlotte, 6-3, to help the Eagles claim the doubles point.

Rehaana Butt (B-CU) recorded singles victories against Troy and UNC Wilmington in the No. 2 position.
Michelle Ncube (B-CU) recorded singles victories in the No. 1 position against Northern Illinois and UNC Wilmington.
Kaya Ellis (NCAT) defeated Longwood’s Crystal Nzewi 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 6 position.
Angelica Martinez (NCAT) defeated Longwood’s Yulia Almiron 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in the No. 2 position.
Frida Cnossen (NCCU) defeated North Carolina A&T State’s Fabiana Ramirez 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 1 position.
