MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., March 19, 2019–North Carolina Central junior Dalika Wallace has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday, while senior pitcher Madison Didion of Coppin State is the MEAC Pitcher of the Week and infielder Kimiya Watkins of Florida A&M landed MEAC Rookie of the Week Honors.
 
Wallace (Jr., UTL, Newport News, Va.) posted an .875 slugging percentage and a .733 on-base percentage in five games during the week, batting .500 while going 4-for-8 with a home run, four walks, three hit-by-pitches and reaching base 11 times in 15 plate appearances.  She was a perfect 2-for-2 in stolen bases.  She hit a home run in NCCU’s series opener versus MDES, helping the Eagles sweep the three-game series.
 
Didion (Sr., P, Montesano, Wash.) tallied 11 strikeouts in a complete-game victory over South Carolina State. She also allowed one run on four hits in a 1-0 loss at Delaware.
 
Watkins (Fr., INF, Winter Park, Fla.) amassed a .462 batting average, going 6-for-13 with two doubles, one triple and seven RBIs in five games for Florida A&M. She went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs against Colgate. She also had a two-run double against USF on Sunday.
 
Other Top Performers
Alexis Bermudez (B-CU) threw a 3-hit shutout against the Western Illinois Wildcats, collecting six strikeouts in the process.
 
Brianna Paysinger (B-CU) went 3-for-6 with a double, two RBIs, one run scored and one stolen base in a two-game series against Western Illinois.
 
Cloe Ochoa (CSU) batted .500 (3-for-6) with one double, two RBI and one run scored. Also had a .667 slugging percentage for the week. In the field, she had six putouts, four assists and two errors.
 
Tyra Bowers (FAMU) hit .353 with six hits in 17 at-bats. She scored four runs, had three RBIs and two doubles.
 
Kyaira Brown (FAMU) went 1-2 on the week with a 4.87 ERA, pitching three complete games while making four appearances on the mound altogether, working 23.0 innings with 11 strikeouts versus six walks.  She allowed 19 runs on 29 hits.
 
Sienna Herrera (HOW) went 8-for-12 (.667) with four RBIs in four games played during the week.  She had a stolen base in one game against South Carolina State, one double in another game against the Bulldogs, three hits against St. Peters and seven putouts.
 
Tracey Mosley (HOW) had seven strikeouts against St. Peter’s during the week.
 
Nikki Varela (NCAT) went 4-for-9 with four RBIs during the past week.
 
Claire Eosso (NCCU) picked up her first win of the season with three shutout innings of relief pitched in an 8-0 win on Saturday against Maryland Eastern Shore. She also had a quality start and complete game against Youngstown State, allowing two earned runs over seven innings.  She finished the week pitching 10 innings with a stellar 1.40 ERA.
 
Tuli Iosefa (NSU) went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, two home runs and two runs scored in a series against North Carolina A&T State. Most of her production same in the first game of the series, when she was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two homers and four RBIs.
 
Skylar Swain (NSU) threw her second straight shutout of the season with a three-hitter against North Carolina A&T State in a 1-0 win in the second game of the series.
